1. O sad one who spends life depressed
And ailing, the doctor's lips in vain tried to heal

2. Despair looms over your face until
People fled weeping, frightened

3. Eyes that send sorrows like arrows
Wherever you aim them, they terrify hearts

4. You are eternally sworn to worries
In you, joy has never been seen to grow

5. And if you looked upon a beautiful face
You would, due to its beauty, frown and pout

6. And if you heard a delicate voice
Or an eloquent one in a gathering or orator

7. Or praise of a man, you would out of spite
Stay sulking miserably for a month

8. And if it was said among people, a rich man!
The words would ignite flames of rage within you

9. All this while you, out of God's mercy
Have been given favors and a share

10. What could people discern in you
If you were not favored but distressed?
