1. O time, for how long will you mistreat me
My resolution and determination and you are mocking me

2. Woe to me for what I see that brings humiliation
To a loved one until I see who brings condolences

3. I am wounded, part of me is gone and part remains
And you are the one who wounds

4. You betrayed me in my son who is part of me
But God was true, so He tested and will render judgment

5. The tendency of the complainer when frustrated
With fate is the tendency of the provocateur

6. I am content with what God has decreed justly
I am not of those who are repulsed by what He wills

7. And so the forbearing remains steadfast in adversity
When the ignorant, impetuous one slips

8. Why has the branch of bliss in our presence withered?
It does not waver, yet it is the withering of the shaker

9. Illness has made of it a brocade of beauty
Which used to flourish over spring with embroidery

10. Abdul Ghani was a garden of beauty
Adorned with basil and silver metalwork

11. Whenever he confronted men in battle as a youth
He repelled in war every horseman and infantryman

12. He was like praise whose parts are inseparable
In prayer and otherwise, nothing can take its place

13. So if calamity befell my son
And my enemy who envies me gloats

14. By my Lord, he will surely drink from a cup
That made my son drink, and your consequence will come

15. Where is Pharaoh and his soldiers who drowned
After clear portents and warnings?

16. Where is Chosroes? If you can see the signs
That made him blind, you do not hear warning

17. Where is the kingdom of the mighty king just recently?
And if you remember, where is the kingdom of the honored?

18. And the son of Hood, yet you see not like the son of Hood
He was the lion of the frontiers, waging raids and wars

19. The demands of the nights spurred them on
And so are you in seeking and zeal

20. You may face the multitudes of every brave
And coward, every noble and wicked man

21. O grave, what have you done with a body
That feels discomfort from the cold through its shroud?

22. A tongue that did not insult with abuse
And eyelids that did not glance with sly winks

23. A hand that wrote nothing but the book of God
With no sin, and was not extended for beating

24. Does he see you as anything but bones
Which he who mourns takes comfort remembering?

25. Where is his recitation of the book and his
Rush to it with determination, not weakness?

26. Where is his gentle and forceful voicing
Of vowels and his precise articulation?

27. Where is his lowering of his eyes in shyness so whoever
Spoke to him, he only replied with gestures?

28. Tell the noble youth time has demolished
A structure the highs built for stabbing and striking

29. So he fulfilled your hidden thoughts completely
And the tips of your numbed ones utterly

30. The dearest to me has pained me, one obstinate
I could not bear, so he utterly confounded me

31. The snakes blew their poison in me
The day they ruined me, and yet my only defense was

32. A glimpse from his splendor, the lamp of my night
And a call from his mouth, the key to my treasure

33. He singled out my singular, my unique one
So I clung in crazed passion to his saliva

34. The days changed my misery to bounty
When I left him, and my disgrace to honor

35. Mother of Durz reproached me, yet when
Did she ever act well, mother of Durz?

36. Disgrace itself was disgraced and dishonored among a people,
While through you every flag and banner was adorned

37. O son who made weapons rattle, your blow struck
The hearts of enemies, and your resolve disgraced them

38. Neither the flowing of sweet milk nor seeping of sap
Comforted me a day after you, after the separation

39. I used to be among communities until you passed
So I became among goats and sheep

40. In abysses of disgrace when I used to be
Amid honor, abundant and gushing

41. As if I am sick from my joy
Apart from any delight from the penitents

42. I used to be comfortable when the child played
On Thursdays with running and jumping

43. You are in the custody of guidance while demons,
Their morning is misery, what misery!

44. And when people assail each other with insults
You would not be pleased if they insulted you

45. It saddens me, my son, that you are cut off from me
May God keep you safe, does my separation sadden you?
