1. Should I not weep, for the moon that was with me has now set?
The buds have bloomed, though not with beauty as before.

2. Alas for my night, now gloomy in dusk,
Fulfilling its fate as time passes.

3. Were not his glories apparent when alone?
Greatness was his attribute, glory his mantle.

4. Chosen in character, he journeyed straight
To Paradise, a place of peace.

5. He left this world, preferring the next,
Acting with wisdom in all he did.

6. The eyes of the fair ceased to look at him
When they saw he spurned the world’s empty joys.

7. He brought healing to my love-sick heart
Dispelling the anguish I felt within.

8. His father was honored but humbled himself
And retired in his last days from all affairs.

9. My wound has healed since he left me
And closes now that he has gone away.

10. No child remains that his mother caressed,
The line is severed, cut off for all time.

11. Fate brought me low, and so I remain,
Bearing this burden until the end.

12. The meanings he expressed with such clarity
Are now jumbled and make no more sense.

13. Let my soul die in sorrowful longing
For he who brought it peace and rest.

14. Circumstance has severed my ties completely
To family, dwelling, all that I held dear.

15. If God had wished me well,
He'd have spared me this devastation.

16. My spirit is troubled by what has transpired,
For he who was my refuge has now departed.

17. Would that I had avoided mistakes,
That lead to ruin and wretchedness.

18. The days cry out lessons
To those asleep who pay no heed.

19. The people of this world are blind
To its snares and so do not learn.

20. Had they known the dangers it hides
They'd not have ventured forth so readily.

21. Happy is he who does not settle
And leaves this life free of its lures.

22. It flaunted its splendor but he refused,
Rejecting all but a righteous path.

23. It has made me drink bitterness today,
But sweetness may come after some time.

24. My son has attained blessing, would that
Death had taken me to that sublime place.

25. So blessings of God upon him
Who reached the most high destination.

26. While my sins are countless as sand,
Beyond any recompense I can offer.

27. He was a masterpiece of God's creation,
Perfection that no blemish could mar.

28. He risked himself through his greatness
And his blood soaked the earth where he fell.

29. When night comes, I stay awake, weeping,
While tears flow in streams nonstop.

30. Such is the way of fate, it comes suddenly
Bearing events unknown before.

31. If pages are opened, a mystery revealed,
The claim is null, and wisdom rules.

32. We are in peril, tossed on the waves,
Who says he is safe is sorely mistaken.

33. God has let loose the arrows, and if
They strike the valiant, they will kill.

34. My father, still young in courage
Though his childhood is now done.

35. Wisdom has given gravity to his spirit
And he rides steadfast through youthful passions.

36. If he understands my counsel when given
It will guide him on his journey ahead.

37. Buried with him are piety, strength of purpose,
And the will to strive and attain.

38. My son Abdul Ghani, have you reached
The heights of glory that were your hope?

39. The cup of incense invites you to partake
A drink with no bitterness that follows.

40. Heal me by God from afflictions,
And sustain me in my most difficult days.
