1. How can I thirst when once for me
In you was water sweet and free?
١. كَيفَ أَظماني وَقَد كا
نَ لي فيكَ مُرتَوى
2. Or when His word was spoken plain
God grant you peace, and peace again.
٢. أَو لما كملت قا
ل لَكَ اللَهُ مُرتَوا
3. Yet haters watch us enviously,
Since that first knot of destiny.
٣. شمتَ الحاسِدونَ بي
فيكَ مُذ شَطَّتِ النَوى
4. They plot their snares, as oft before;
I say, A man's acts lie in his power.
٤. قيلَ يَنوونَ كَيدَهُم
قُلتُ لِلمَرءِ ما نَوى
5. Between us love's word interposes,
Who rends may mend faith's shattered roses.
٥. حالَ بَيني وَبَينهُم
فالِقُ الحبِّ وَالنَوى
