1. Wipe the kohl of sleep from my eyes
And remove the thorns from my bed

2. Or take from me what you have left
I do not love a body devoid of spirit

3. Can you protect a lover from passion?
Or release a captive from shackles?

4. I ask about you and abandon you
The thirsty rarely ask about water

5. It was just a fleeting affair
So we turned away from you

6. After you, the days
Are like a widow in mourning

7. I have no tomb near you
Except seeing the flags of Hadb and Nijad

8. We restrained the camels in their homes
As they are the white of Dhumail and Wikhād

9. The imagination of you rarely comforts
Between my eyelids and sleep

10. And talk of you is mostly
About the breeze of wind or lightning of clouds

11. Nearness to you only brought estrangement
So we accepted separation and distance

12. And if time brought us together
With a watcher, or envier, or enemy

13. You were guided by a lightning bolt from my ribs
And quenched by a cloud of affection

14. And if rain poured down, it was on
What you raised of sky and pillars

15. And if there was a prayer, it was for
Hāshim of Bat'hā' lords of worship

16. They set right the side of time and
Set right the days after corruption

17. With an Imam establishing justice
Or a Warner selected for revelation and guidance

18. The people of the Basin of Allah, flowing
With pure, fresh, cool water

19. Should I seek their equal on the day of assembly
Or hope for their equal on the day of judgment?

20. They made lawful all the protected sanctuaries
And humiliated every stubborn tyrant

21. And when people take the high road
They have it as a custom from early times

22. Theirs is every well-trodden road
Theirs is every noble line

23. Moons rise from their crowns
With shields as perfect as coats of mail

24. All the small fry of riffraff above them
Are like the eyes of vipers or locusts

25. So there is a brand from withering on the bodies
And a dye from dried blood on the deceased

26. With steeds foraying in battle
Some searching out the valiant, others for plunder

27. And when they stained them red
They exchanged pale swords for crimson and flowers

28. And when their hands were dyed
They distinguished between prisoners and shackles

29. Those are hands that gave what they acquired
To the noble, the elegant and the tender

30. They killed Hātim in Tayyi'
And Ka'b in Ivād, deaths of time

31. And they were the living before life
And the defenders before other defenders

32. They defended Mecca in protection
Binding the best covenant in the best refuge

33. So theirs is whatever its plains delivered
Of Qalīb, Masād, Marād

34. Or Shi'āb, Hadab or Rubā
Or Bitaah or Nijād, or Wihād

35. As they protected it with steely strongholds
And pure white banners

36. They struck Abrahah before it
After he had covered his surroundings in black

37. They preoccupied the elephant in battle
With repeated stabs of lone warriors

38. Within them is the fire of villages enveloped
Like mountains of glowing ashes

39. Theirs is generosity even if the young camels wasted away
Not a sea of waving meadows from yielding rain clouds

40. And if the shooting stars of meadows flashed
It would not be a year of vengeance and retaliation

41. For you is the peak of those heights
And the aromatic low valleys of those valleys

42. O prince of the people
Of Hāshim in leadership and victory

43. And grandson of its formidable lion al-Mansour
In his raging battles and flaming fires

44. O you two who resemble dew on a day of dew
And sincere skins on a day of tanning

45. You were accustomed in this abode
To the custom of volcanoes in solid ground

46. The making of the soul in the ways of passion
Is not like the making of the soul in the ways of guidance

47. Indeed, Yahya ibn 'Ali deserved what
You both came with of generous gifts

48. He was a feeble newborn first
So merit brought a robust maturity

49. What clouds are over it for you two
And hopes and plans with him

50. With him is what the angels desired
Of resolve, excellence, provision, and effort

51. And shouldering the responsibility placed on him
And self-sufficiency, vitality and diligence

52. The like of him protected the frontiers of the kingdom
In every situation against the kingdom and its helpers

53. What a firebrand unsheathed for you
And what a hand that unsheathed it in violence

54. And a wealthy man like him, as long as you
Do not lack swords, spears and steeds

55. Indeed, one who has unsheathed even one sword
Impregnable places are unsafe from the harm of enemies

56. So how much more one who has a sword and battle cry
From you while he is skilled in decapitation

57. If I warn you of an ungrateful one
I would report about a serpent of the valley

58. Blessed is one who travels the camels in continuity
And straightens whatever is crooked of steeds

59. Under the flashes of swords or clouds
Of standards or cloaks of flags

60. He awakened the kingdom to its preparedness
It is a protected sword in its sheath

61. How many positions beneath it for you
Where glory is built on wild beasts

62. Good deeds, the least of which is greater
And a generous hand known to all people

63. We secured from the vicissitudes of days
With the noble reddish cloud

64. And the brilliant marten fur Peculiar for wrapping
One is a lion that overpowers lions

65. And the other a serpent that eats the serpents of the lands
You two are the best supplies for a man

66. And after you two the best supplies
Through you the world submitted to us

67. After an era of estrangement
And through you I raised a flag

68. That even the stars gaze at from afar
And rhymes are not like steeds

69. That only neigh when they set out at a run
It is a precious gem I commissioned

70. Not to stand still like the degraded in a bankrupt market
And if poetry meets its people

71. Its pride shines after tarnishing
And if honor strikes its flint

72. It only increases in inflammation and ignition
Like the canal of a line, if you shake it

73. It only increases in stability and continuity
O sons of Mansoor and Qa'im, if

74. Counted, al-Mahdi, the Mahdi of guidance
I do not see any deviant verse of praise

75. In anyone but you, other than blasphemy and apostasy
And you have come just as I wished

76. There is no increase in your pride
