1. She intoxicated me with what her articulate lips poured,
And her sharp blades reproached me.

2. War distracted me from her, turning away its intensity,
And the rumbling of thunder amidst the howling of wolves.

3. How can I reach her, now Najd's stalwarts stand between us
With their excellent steeds and sharp swords!

4. The remote pilgrimage and its distance came between us,
As did the howling storms, evil spirits and piercing cries.

5. Passionate, angry men jealous over her, wearing helmets,
Their long sharp swords unsheathed, resolute.

6. Had I willed it, her tent would not have been far from me,
Though it reached the celestial stars.

7. For her, I spent the night riding a swift camel,
Smelling the darkness, a son of darkness.

8. Her smooth spears kept me awake rolling on the ground,
In the hands of Azd's gallant young warriors with yellow turbans.

9. Will the steeds convey my message, as if
I had freed them from the fetters that hinder them?

10. Those high-bred mares that provide sustenance
And feed on the prey of the voracious eagles!

11. My she-camels of Lahyan blood surged for the water wells
And swayed towards my encampment in Egypt.

12. I bade farewell to the victorious army,
A goodbye without unsheathing swords!

13. I almost turned away from those I left behind,
But my resolute will brought me back.

14. Had I monopolized the permission myself,
I would have proceeded heedless of critics.

15. I ventured forth until I fulfilled my promise,
So the poets would know my resistance.

16. I head to Egypt to behold the spectacle
That makes even the absent bite their fingertips in anguish!

17. If I cannot behold it with my eyes,
I will hear of it fully, amidst the drawing of swords.

18. My soul imagined victory for me,
As if I saw it without a critic's glance.

19. Thus, when proof comes to the moral man,
Of something that necessarily follows.

20. I have achieved some of my goals,
And gratified myself with the green armies.

21. I found among the supporters of Hashim’s state
Young men striving for Hashim’s state.

22. I took their path of jihad,
To pray with them at dawn.

23. I left them not affecting their separation,
Nor neglecting binding duties.

24. So the tent, the fluttering banners,
The leader of all Muslims and lion of perils converged!

25. Among the army is its filling, its spreader
Of justice with the scales.

26. A battle leader who spares not himself,
Nor hoards the spoils greedily.

27. Who turns not his banners from a warrior,
Nor withholds his kindness from one resigned.

28. The first ally of one crying in distress,
The first vanquisher of an unjust tyrant.

29. No brilliant man before or now
Saw his equal in formidable trials!

30. None like him has led battalions
To aid the oppressed and suppress the oppressor.

31. No one gathered for him before
The ink of virtues and shunning of sins.

32. May you be pleased with him, son of God's revelation!
For he tended God's allies as a shepherd his flock.

33. If they disputed he reconciled amongst them
Like a doctor with remedies for uneasy souls.

34. His view never follows whims in any matter,
Nor does he heed insinuations.

35. The good rewards from them are his just due,
For he quenched them with the pure drink of justice.

36. He behaved with them in a manner none of mankind emulated
Except the like of Ka'b and Hatem.

37. He brought them shade in your days, adorned
With the days of glory and generosity!

38. Before you the Eastern army never had such spoils,
Especially after the plentiful gifts.

39. And after prayers, the like of which people never saw
Nor heard of even in time long past.

40. They are a people whom Allah knows
Shared the world like war booty!

41. So how many thousands traversed it
Treading it underfoot, partitioned!

42. Had I been one who doubts what he sees plainly,
And perceives imaginings and delusions,

43. I would have told myself I was dreaming
Even if I was not in fact dreaming!

44. Let not one who shirked ask me,
Then strike my opinions like a regretful man.

45. By my life! They are allies of truth, all of them
From glory, in a lofty house!

46. They showed gratitude for their Lord's blessing
And their leader, in a way I do not sleep on!

47. Indeed, they entrusted me with advice
Precious gifts from precious souls,

48. Conveying them to you, Commander of the Faithful,
Like assets under a signet ring's protection!

49. I bore witness to what I saw and knew
As righteous witness, not sinful witness.

50. So I spoke on behalf of the people a speech,
That if mentioned will not shame them in gatherings.
