1. And this is a log stripped of all essence
It has no shape and has no kind
١. وذي شُطَبٍ قد جَلَّ عن كلِّ جوهرٍ
فليس له شَكلٌ وليس له جِنسُ
2. As an eye from the vast sea met a storm
And the sun slaughtered it at its rising
٢. كما قابَلَتْ عينٌ من اليَمِّ لُجّةً
وقد نَحَرَتْها من مَطالعها الشمسُ
