1. The night has turned its back on us, so drive the camels,
Though the clacking of white and dusky camels suffices.

2. They come out from the right side of the valley engulfing it,
With nothing in it but the slender interwoven palm-trees.

3. When they call loudly, the valley becomes desolate,
And the night resembles the coat of mail of the brave horseman.

4. We will startle the living who sleep, while their swords
Lie in the bed of safety between the hillocks and heights.

5. We will not hasten upon them suddenly and drive on in fear,
While the settled one keeps watch over us at dawn,

6. From the encampments amongst which are frail shelters
Welcoming the secrets heavy with farewells and kisses.

7. Bearing slight provisions in their resting-places
When moving beside the slender entwined palm-trees.

8. Neither forgetfulness nor recollection harms our friendship,
Although the jealous spoke of us, and her cheek grew red with shame:

9. "You have distressed me with parting undeservedly,
And the men of Shaiban have fought against you manfully."

10. A people who subdued the world for its inhabitants,
And men and jinn to them are like docile camels.

11. They seized the trophies of kings' power,
And they have curbed the necks of the people of horses and gowns.

12. They have ruled the eras and controlled the fates,
And they have lived securely throughout the dynasties.

13. Connected from the beginning to the end of time,
And if you ask of their eminence, it has not ceased.

14. Of all the living, none but them
Have long arms, and spears, and swords.

15. They pieced the enemy's chests until when their own chests broke open,
They stabbed with the sturdy, brilliant swords.

16. Their tongues, from the length of time they were unsheathed,
If assembled on coats of mail, would be like kindling wood.

17. So they strike their bed of hillocks with flaming,
Rushing from its place of assault and piercing the skull.

18. They are not startled the morn after fear startles them,
Except to the clamor of the majestic, dreadful event.

19. And war would not boast of its horsemen without them,
For the army would be like grazing beasts, and swords like defects.

20. Who stretch out to well-being hands
That if likened to the pouring rain, do not withhold.

21. The rain knew that if it resembled them
Something of stinginess would infect its torrential downpour.

22. I heard of the Master of the World, Master of them,
Who was the epitome of every perfection.

23. Until when God desired to make me prosper,
I saw him and saw people in a man.

24. The Ariha man only gives hope,
While the Hebronite only dashes courage.

25. I will not be discouraged by his discouragement over danger
As long as I remain under his reviving pardon, hoping.

26. Conversation polishes his hearing through intimacy,
And dew can only run towards fresh herbage.

27. Radiance is concealed from only his insight,
So that the correctness of speech seems like error.

28. Supported by God's guidance, accompanying him,
And in God's guidance you will never see any defect.

29. If he advanced in the age of philosophers
Or if they saw him, they would say, "The cause of causes!"

30. Deception crawls into the soul of one who opposed his schemes
Like lethal poison killing instantly or slowly.

31. A young man to whom I attested the ascendancies
Just as I attested to God as eternal and everlasting;

32. From the family of Shaiban and the loyal ones, when they contracted
Protection of their neighbor in the first eras.

33. Striking Kilab above its head
With the overseer, from the elevation of camels.
