4. Why then am I excluded from your gifts
While my eyes behold you like a father beholding his son?

5. How many are grateful to Prince Muhammed
In both worlds, and how many praise him!

6. Despair has confined me in the place of one who sits,
Since my ancestors were not climbers in the ranks of nobility.

7. Why am I deprived your favor you grant to Khalid?
Am I not senior in rank to Khalid in your court?

8. When men fail, the favors granted Khalid keep him going,
While summer has opened up the market of the extremely cold.

9. Two figures bringing happiness whose saying is singing,
They have taken the place of Amr the ascetic with you.
