1. God watered the one I love though he is far away
And turned from me, prolonged has been his disdain

2. God willed that I be burdened with love for him
So I became, regarding His decree, content

3. And I cried till my eyes overflowed with tears
Drenching both eyelids with their rain

4. If I die of passion for him and yearning
Many a lover before me died of his malady
