1. Now that you have joined me to the caravan
And stretched out to me your arm and shoulder

2. I will turn away from troubles and their tyranny
And pardon the times of sin

3. And dress you in each verse, adorned
That flows and joins with wondrous praise

4. With the fabric of eulogy, famed
Deep-rooted in each heart turned over

5. Dazzler of the verdant East’s people
Who crave the basil of the Maghreb’s people

6. You revealed to me beyond the skin of water
Which I was used to, very mossy

7. And brought me to the valley’s lushness, even if
You had left me, I'd have stopped at sin

8. And flashed to me the lightning of certainty, while
I awaited the lightning of delusion

9. And made for me solace after
My disposition and turning distressed me

10. And the freeman is deprived of his consolation’s beauty
By the narrowness of principles, so how narrow the doctrine!

11. Never! The journey refuses to lead me astray
In a land where you are its planet

12. And I feared that my prize would be
Spoiled by time and cooled of fervor

13. But with you behind my back, a refuge
I will rise up straight-backed and crucified

14. That’s how they were, not bolting the vale
Unless they knew the way of escape
