1. Still the days inform an asker
That soon they will make a rash or wise man grieve
١. مازالَتِ الأَيّامُ تُخبِرُ سائِلاً
أَن سَوفَ تَفجَعُ مُسهِلاً أَو عاقِلا
2. Verily when its bitterness persists
Insanity amongst people becomes combative
٢. إِنَّ المَنونَ إِذا اِستَمَرَّ مَريرُها
كانَت لَها جُنَنُ الأَنامِ مَقاتِلا
3. Every day it troubles our souls
With the worry of declining and ominous affairs
٣. في كُلِّ يَومٍ يَعتَبِطنَ نُفوسَنا
عَبطَ المُنَحِّبِ جِلَّةً وَأَفائِلا
4. You do not see one thing giving life to another
Except you find it killing another
٤. ما إِن تَرى شَيئاً لِشَيءٍ مُحيِياً
حَتّى تُلاقيهِ لِآخَرَ قاتِلا
5. Because of that, I struggle to see it yet I do not
Except the world being called worthless
٥. مِن ذاكَ أَجهَدُ أَن أَراهُ فَلا أَرى
حَقّاً سِوى الدُنيا يُسَمّى باطِلا
6. Oh God, what deep anguish we have been under
Leaving the eyes pouring with tears
٦. لِلَّهِ أَيَّةُ لَوعَةٍ ظِلنا بِها
تَرَكَت بَكِيّاتِ العُيونِ هَوامِلا
7. Glory settled cozily until when
We said it made eternity stay, it departed
٧. مَجدٌ تَأَوَّبَ طارِقاً حَتّى إِذا
قُلنا أَقامَ الدَهرَ أَصبَحَ راحِلا
8. By God's will two stars did not rise
Except a glance until they disappeared
٨. نَجمانِ شاءَ اللَهُ أَلّا يَطلُعا
إِلّا اِرتِدادَ الطَرفِ حَتّى يَأفِلا
9. Verily the calamity at the meadows being blooming
Is more beautiful than them being withering
٩. إِنَّ الفَجيعَةَ بِالرِياضِ نَواضِراً
لَأَجَلُّ مِنها بِالرِياضِ ذَوابِلا
10. If forgotten, this would be lost
To the generous ones, and that would carry
١٠. لَو يُنسَآنِ لَكانَ هَذا غارِباً
لِلمَكرُماتِ وَكانَ هَذا كاهِلا
11. My craving for those witnesses in both of them
If given time would become ideals
١١. لَهفي عَلى تِلكَ الشَواهِدِ فيهِما
لَو أُمهِلَت حَتّى تَكونَ شَمائِلا
12. Soon their stillness would be wisdom and their youthfulness
Patience, and that comfort attained
١٢. لَغَدا سُكونُهُما حِجىً وَصِباهُما
حِلماً وَتِلكَ الأَريَحِيَّةُ نائِلا
13. The glittering star would be followed by a shining moon
And that generosity would return pouring
١٣. وَلَأَعقَبَ النَجمُ المُرِذُّ بِديمَةٍ
وَلَعادَ ذاكَ الطَلُّ جَوداً وابِلا
14. Verily when you see the crescent's growth
You will know it will become a full moon
١٤. إِنَّ الهِلالَ إِذا رَأَيتَ نُمُوَّهُ
أَيقَنتَ أَن سَيَكونُ بَدراً كامِلا
15. Say to the prince, and if you meet a dignified one
Shaking from the incidents, tottering
١٥. قُل لِلأَميرِ وَإِن لَقيتَ مُوَقَّراً
مِنهُ بِرَيبِ الحادِثاتِ حُلاحِلا
16. If you shed tears twice in one day
Shed as a raging grief and tumult
١٦. إِن تُرزَ في طَرَفَي نَهارٍ واحِدٍ
رُزئَينِ هاجا لَوعَةً وَبَلابِلا
17. Weight is not doubled with a simple stroke
Unless it was an imagination that missed
١٧. فَالثِقلُ لَيسَ مُضاعَفاً لِمَطِيَّةٍ
إِلّا إِذا ما كانَ وَهماً بازِلا
18. No wonder the thin branches encountered
Pigeons to the wilderness ravenously flocking
١٨. لا غَروَ إِن فَنَنانِ مِن عيدانِهِ
لَقِيا حِماماً لِلبَرِيَّةِ آكِلا
19. Verily the noble one when adorned by a refined one from it
Waited a while then favored the lowest ranking
١٩. إِنَّ الأَشاءَ إِذا أَصابَ مُشَذِّبٌ
مِنهُ اِتمَهَلَّ ذُرىً وَأَثَّ أَسافِلا
20. Two expressions Allah made them disappear and they left
Heights for us below the sky strongly built
٢٠. حِقفانِ هالَهُما القَضاءُ وَغادَرا
قُلَلاً لَنا دونَ السَماءِ قَواعِلا
21. Radwa, Quds, Yadheela, Amaia, Yarmarma
And Motalli'a, and Mowassela
٢١. رَضوى وَقُدسَ وَيَذبُلاً وَعَمايَةً
وَيَرمرَماً وَمُتالِعاً وَمُواسِلا
22. The Pure Ones, and brothers you sired
Directed or inspired enthusiastically or slowly
٢٢. الطاهِرَينِ وَإِخوَةً أَنجَبتَهُم
كَالحَومِ وُجِّهَ صادِراً أَو ناهِلا
23. Your merits refused to be weakened by anyone
Or to be reminded by a forgetful or heedless one
٢٣. شَمَخَت خِلالُكَ أَن يُؤَسّيكَ اِمرِؤٌ
أَو أَن تُذَكَّرَ ناسِياً أَو غافِلا
24. Except advice led to you graciously
Inclining your mind hearing or speaking
٢٤. إِلّا مَواعِظَ قادَها لَكَ سَمحَةً
إِسجاجُ لُبِّكَ سامِعاً أَو قائِلا
25. Do hands move to shake a resolute one
Unless the decisive sword did the hitting
٢٥. هَل تَكَلَّفُ الأَيدي بِهَزِّ مُهَنَّدٍ
إِلّا إِذا كانَ الحُسامَ القاصِلا
