1. The vicissitudes of fate distracted me on a joyous day,
When Ahmad and Muhammad vanished from my sight.

2. May God condemn to misery the days we were apart,
For never is there a day of separation that can be praised.

3. When a blissful day of yearning ends,
Another follows it, bringing intense longing.

4. My enduring desire for them
Has left me with nothing but regrets throbbing in my heart.

5. My friends, I have tasted no delight,
Nor have my hands reached out to pleasure.

6. Nor has my soul created a new, beloved friend
Who could make me forget that newly beloved one.

7. Nor have I abandoned the pact I made with you both,
I have always kept to the pact that I was accustomed to.

8. So if you two enjoy intimacy and bliss without me,
I will be alone in my constant pouring out of love and longing.
