1. The wantonness of the past has passed away,
And that passion has been extinguished and faded.
١. مَضى ما كانَ قَبلُ مِنَ الدَعارَه
فَبانَ وَأُطفِئَت تِلكَ الحَرارَه
2. Your adored face became chaste
Like the coolness of silk on Damascene brocade.
٢. وَأَصبَحَ وَجهُكَ المَعشوقُ عَفّى
عَلى ديباجِهِ بُردُ الإِجارَه
3. It was the most radiant of faces, but now
It is as though about to be pelted with stones.
٣. وَكانَ أَرَقَّ وَجهٍ ثُمَّ أَضحى
يَكادُ بِأَن تُرَصَّ بِهِ الحِجارَه
4. Can the water of sincerity remain
When you persist in turbid gatherings?
٤. وَهَل يَبقى لِثَوبِ الصِدقِ ماءٌ
إِذا أَدمَنتَ فيهِ عَلى القَصارَه
5. You make your living by the labor of your back
In the garb of idleness and loss.
٥. تَجَرتَ بِعَينِ ظَهرِكَ مُستَعيناً
بِأَثوابِ البَطالَةِ وَالخَسارَه
6. You, more worthy than anyone, should not
Squander yourself amid writing and trade.
٦. فَأَنتَ أَحَقُّ خَلقِ اللَهِ أَلّا
تَضيعَ مَعَ الكِتابَةِ وَالتِجارَه
