1. I saw the heights inhabited because of you, its homes prosperous,
When they gather in fear and settle in their abode.

2. And how many dark misfortunes are reckoned as a night,
Their day shone upon us from your comfort.

3. Neither did your righteous neighbor take his abode,
Nor did your faithful honor take its shame.

4. So do not enable the importunate against the duty of benefaction,
Evil is the brother of treacherous hands and its neighbor.

5. For righteous hands, their great ones,
When they fall under accusations, are their small ones.

6. And no benefit to one who yesterday died striving
If today's sky prolonged its downpour.

7. Customary deferment is nothing but an ulcer
You turned away from when its bandage unraveled.

8. The best of a man's tools are his concise ones,
Just as the best of nights are their short ones.
