For leaving the world and loving their homeland?

4. One who was raised among the pyramids to the cedars
An enamored one, recalling the days of youth

5. In meadows inhabited by the hands of morning
They left, and misery settled therein

6. O meadows, whenever you turn to them
In my mouth, a painful memory of them lingers

7. My heart has never turned away from you
How can I be distracted from you, O summit of wishes?

8. You, oh Lebanon, are my lifelong beloved
And my heart does not cease to roam your realm

9. I have melted in longing, weariness, and pining
For those of my family who dwell within you

10. Your lofty, splendid mountains, imposing and sublime
Below them a hillside on a fertile valley

11. Whenever I recall it, my eyes grow dim
This world fades, and I forget who I am

12. In you are my dear, noble loved ones
Speaking of their plight, words fail me

13. When will their darkness be dispelled?
When will they enjoy good fortune after adversity?

14. Before long we will see this call
Answered, not neglected in vain

15. And when the banner sees the star appear
It will proclaim, "O people, good tidings have come near!"
