1. The beloved's love does not run out
And despair consoles if you dwell in ravines
١. إِنَّ الحَبيبَةَ حُبُّها لَم يَنفَدِ
وَاليَأسُ يُسلي لَو سَلَوتَ أَخادَدِ
2. Long has been your love and yearning for her
If only the length of your infatuation could avail you
٢. قَد طالَ ما أَحبَبتَها وَوَدِدتَها
لَو كانَ يُغني عَنكَ طولُ تَوَدُّدِ
3. Iraq and its people were the love
So if their love distances from me, then let it go far
٣. إنَّ العِراقَ وَأَهلَهُ كانُوا الهَوى
فَإِذا نَأى بي وُدُّهُم فَليَبعُدِ
4. Then at night let my she-camel leave them
She ignores the fodder and is guided by the Pole Star
٤. فَلتَترُكَنَّهُمُ بِلَيلٍ ناقَتي
تَذَرُ السِماكَ وَتَهتَدي بِالفَرقَدِ
5. She runs when the ostrich falls with its plumage
The run of the wild ass, fearing the narrowness of the road
٥. تَعدو إِذا وَقَعَ المُمَرُّ بِدَفِّها
عَدوَ النَحوصِ تَخافُ ضيقَ المَرصَدِ
6. A generous she-camel when I rouse her from the abode
Her teats are milked with a twisted rope
٦. أُجُدٌ إِذا اِستَنفَرتُها مِن مَبرَكٍ
حُلِبَت مَغابِنُها بِرُبٍّ مُعقَدِ
7. And when the riders entrust one another after the night journey
And the mirage flows over the surfaces of the pebbles
٧. وَإِذا الرِكابُ تَواكَلَت بَعدَ السُرى
وَجَرى السَرابُ عَلى مُتونِ الجَدجَدِ
8. She frolics and the oryx falls from her swiftness
Pulling the companion to the smooth bare mountain
٨. مَرِحَت وَطاحَ المَروُ مِن أَخفافِها
جَذبَ القَرينَةِ لِلنَجاءِ الأَجرَدِ
9. To the land of people whose guidance is not sought
While the guidance of other people is refusal
٩. لِبِلادِ قَومٍ لا يُرامُ هَدِيُّهُم
وَهَدِيُّ قَومٍ آخَرينَ هُوَ الرَدِي
10. Like Turaifah ibn Al-Abd, their guidance
They struck the nape of his neck with sharpened sword
١٠. كَطُرَيفَةَ بنِ العَبدِ كانَ هَدِيَّهُم
ضَربوا قَذالَةَ رَأسِهِ بِمُهَنَّدِ
11. And the two sons of Ummah I have taken both
And it is feared you are the third with the black hair
١١. وَاِبنى أُمامَةَ قَد أَخَذتَ كِلَيهِما
وَإِخالُ أنَّكَ ثالِثٌ بِالأَسوَدِ
12. Betrayal, deception, treachery and betrayal
And trickery I leave in the land of the corrupter
١٢. إِنَّ الخيانَةَ وَالمَغالَةَ وَالخَنا
وَالغَدرَ أَترُكُهُ بِبَلدَةِ مُفسِدِ
13. A king who plays with his mother and her kitten
Weak in the joints, his cadaver like a rotten palm trunk
١٣. مَلِكٌ يُلاعِبُ أُمَّهُ وَقَطِينَها
رِخوَ المَفاصِلِ أيرُهُ كالمِروَدِ
14. At the gate, every seeker asks for his need
But when alone, man is without supporter
١٤. بِالبابِ يَطلُبُ كُلَّ طالِبِ حاجَةٍ
فَإِذا خَلا فَالمَرءُ غَيرُ مُسَدَّدِ
15. So when the night has descended around my abode
Then flash in your land whatever appears to you, and thunder
١٥. فَإِذا حَلَلتُ وَدونَ بَيتَي غاوَةٌ
فَاِبرُق بِأَرضِكَ ما بَدا لَكَ وارعُدِ
16. O sons of Qalabah, your customs were not
Taking the lowly before the position of the noble
١٦. أَبَني قِلابَةَ لَم تَكُن عاداتُكُم
أَخذَ الدَنِيَّةِ قَبلَ خُطَّةِ مِعضَدِ
17. Evil deeds will not be erased from your records
Blessed are the misfortunes when driven to the shrine
١٧. لَن يَرحَضَ السَوءاتَ عن أَحسابِكُم
نَعَمُ الحَواثِرِ إِذ تُساقُ لِمَعبَدِ
18. So the slave is your slave, kill through your brother
Like a camel caravan exposing its side to the driver
١٨. فَالعَبدُ عَبدُكُمُ اِقتُلوا بِأَخيكُمُ
كالعَيرِ أَعرَضَ جَنبَهُ لِلمِطرَدِ
