1. He who has ample wealth and still is greedy, is the destitute though he seems the rich.
And he whose wants are little, though his wealth be scant, is the true man of means, the really rich.
١. مَن كانَ ذا مالٍ كَثيرٍ وَلَم
يَقنَع فَذاكَ الموسِرُ المُعسِرُ
2. True wealth lies in the soul, and with it forms a whole;
The wealth of soul the only wealth we rightly call.
٢. وَكُلُّ مَن كانَ قَنوعاً وَإِن
كانَ مُقِلّاً فَهوَ المُكثِرُ
٣. الفَقرُ في النَفسِ وَفيها الغِنى
وَفي غِنى النَفسِ الغِنى الأَكبَرُ
