1. Little good from Ibn Qasim,
His wealth like his poverty.
١. قَلَّ خَيرُ اِبنِ قاسِمٍ
فَغِناهُ كَعُدمِهِ
2. He almost hid in his mother's womb,
So scared was he of (other) towns.
٢. كادَ مِن خَشيَةِ القِرى
يَختَبي في اُمِّهِ
3. In meanness he went beyond all bounds,
Like his father and his uncle.
٣. جازَ في اللُؤمِ حَدَّهُ
كَأَبيهِ وَعَمُّهُ
4. His meanness almost did confound
Your name, had you adopted his.
٤. كادَ يُعديكَ لُؤمَهُ
لَو تَسَمَّيتَ بِاِسمِهِ
