1. The one with needs spurns kinship
And dares ruin when despair twists him

2. I see youth fooled by health
Yet health is hostage to thrift

3. He hopes for an easy life, though it ruins him
And many hopeful fear where they hoped

4. His hopes exceeded his life
So they do not perish, yet slay the youth

5. He built fortresses fearing harm
While his body contains that harm

6. How strange are these hopes
Adorning the world and corrupting souls

7. He defends himself from causes of woe
Yet defending brings woe's cause

8. He rejoices in passing days
Which are only steps to decline

9. He plunges sin-steeped hands
In blessings too many to count

10. He admires the growth of his wealth
While through losing life he grew

11. He mourns the dead, forgetting himself
As if he were immune to death

12. Let not the blessings you see deceive you
For soon you will see them no more

13. It is as if the past is passed
And the future death has come

14. So depart with provision of piety
For piety is provision for the final journey

15. Is life of use without health?
Or health complete without wealth?
