جلب المجاعة ضامر بخل

1. Greed brings famine, though plentiful the sand,
Of which I've had my fill, as it brings no sustenance.

١. جَلَبَ المَجاعَةَ ضامِرٌ بُخلُ
قَد خِلتُ فيهِ لِضَعفِهِ سُلّا

2. A child, yet strange is his affair,
Returning to childhood after reaching old age.

٢. طِفلٌ وَلَكِن أَمرُهُ عَجَبٌ
قَد عادَ بَعدَ كُهولَةٍ طِفلا

3. He endured two nights, something never seen
In a child so young, nor one bearing such weight.

٣. قَد كانَ حَمَّلَ لَيلَتَينِ فَلَم
تَرَ مِثلَهُ طِفلاً وَلا حَمَلا

4. And of wonders, that a lad returns to his youth
In seventeen nights, having become so aged.

٤. وَمِنَ العَجائِبِ أَن يَعودَ فَتىً
في سَبعَ عَشرَةَ لَيلَةٍ كَهلا
