وذي غنج يأوي إلى فرعه الدجى

1. With boughs that shelter, where the gloom falls deep,
Yet o'er his face she casts a sidelong peep.

١. وَذي غَنَجٍ يَأوي إِلى فَرعِهِ الدُجى
وَلَكِنَّها عَن وَجهِهِ تَتَفَرَّجُ

2. Though dark the dawn, his brow a morning shows,
Though dark the eve, a morn his visage glows.

٢. فَفيهِ ظَلامٌ بِالصَباحِ مُعَمَّمٌ
وَفيهِ صَباحٌ بِالظَلامِ مُتَوَّجُ

3. From thy smooth cheek I see a tress that strays,
While down thy neck the ringlets loosely plays.

٣. يَروقُ سُلَيمى مِنكَ جَعدٌ مُسَلسَلٌ
وَيُسليكَ مِنها أَقحَوانٌ مُفَلَّجُ

4. Thy branch with youthful green is fully decked,
Thy cheeks with beauty's living waters flecked.

٤. وَفَرعُكَ مِن صَبغِ الشَبابِ مُمَسَّكٌ
وَخَدُّكَ مِن ماءِ الجَمالِ مُضَرَّجُ

5. Thy face resembles meadows fresh with rain,
Combed by the winds till smiles break forth again.

٥. وَوَجهُكَ مِثلُ الرَوضِ يَغسِلُهُ الحَيا
تُمَشِّطُهُ أَيدي الرِياحِ فَيَبهَجُ
