1. They witnessed with the Prophet pitched battles,
At Hunayn while the cisterns were bloody,

2. And the raid of Khalid which they witnessed and related,
Its disasters upon the sacred town.

3. We expose our cheeks to the swords at every raid,
Cheeks not exposed to being crushed.

4. And I am not one to take off my clothes,
When the valiant flee, and I do not shoot arrows.

5. Rather my swift horse wanders beneath me
To raids with the sharp sword.
