And a wish that the sad one would say

2. What thing led you to those deep valleys
And did death make its visitation?

3. I will protect you as my forefathers, the honored,
Protected yours, who do not waver

4. Truthful in keeping a night’s promise
While without meeting you, sorrows mount

5. The caravan returned, all safe
While my friend in a tomb lies buried

6. Blessed is the stranger dead as is blessed
The budding of basil and olive trees

7. A fortress fending off opponents with hands
And with a face adorned by youth

8. How many a friend adorned and cousin
And intimate has death imposed itself upon

9. So I found solace in consolation and patience
And truly for my companion I grieve

10. You were my asset and none above you
So now I have become with none below

11. There was certainty in you, not mere hope
How, when suspicions at me were thrown?

12. You were an ally and friend, true of wisdom
Indeed, and an intimate who does not betray

13. So peace be upon you, abundantly from me
Its waters poured upon you, sorrows no more
