1. Behold, has not our gulf been wrought by our Lord
To their detriment, while God is most gentle with mankind?

2. He will tell them the pact has been torn to pieces
And that all that does not please God corrupts

3. It was stirred by lies and assembled sorcery
No other sorcery will ascend at the end of time

4. Those with no shred of dignity flocked to it
So it fluttered aimlessly in their heads

5. And it was a fitting consequence of a sinful deed
For an arm to be severed and a commander stripped of his title

6. The people of the two holy places will flee in panic
Their horses will tremble in fear of evil

7. A farmer will be left to decide his own fate
At that time, will he find support there?

8. A band will ascend the two hills
Armed with lances, arrows, and bows

9. Whoever’s pride stems from Mecca
Our pride stems from within Mecca, where we were born

10. We were raised there while its people were few
We have never ceased to gain more virtue and glory

11. We feed others until benefactors are left with nothing
When the hands of the generous tremble

12. May God reward the succession of Hajūn men
Who give wise counsel to the chieftain's council

13. Sitting by the Hajūn ruins as though they are
Laborers - no, they are far nobler and more magnificent

14. Every falcon has aided it as though
When it marches clad in armor it neighs

15. Valiant amidst fierce trials as though it is
A flaming meteor in the grip of a blacksmith

16. Of the most generous descendants of Lu’ayy ibn Ghalib
When resolved, his face flushes red

17. Tall, half his leg bared
His countenance refreshed by the clouds’ rain

18. Great of prestige, a chieftain and son of a chieftain
Who incites hospitality and brings men together

19. And builds righteousness for his clansmen’s sons
While we roam the lands, paving the way

20. All the innocent have fortified this peace
Noble of standard - his command then brings glory

21. They concluded their nighttime council, then awoke
At ease, while all others still slept

22. They returned Sahl ibn Bayḍā content
Abu Bakr was pleased, as was Muhammad

23. When will the tribes share in all our affairs
When we were once intimate friends?

24. Once we would not tolerate oppression
We seized what we desired and were unbending

25. Men of Quraysh, do you have resolve in your souls?
What will tomorrow bring?

26. As the poet said to you - eloquence is yours
If only you would speak out, even in darkness!
