1. Muhammad wept out of joy when he saw me,
As if he would not see me returning to my homeland.
١. بَكى طَرَباً لَمّا رَآني مُحَمَّدٌ
كَأَن لا يَراني راجِعاً لِمَعادِ
2. He spent the night turning away from me while his tears dripped down,
And his crying dampened my bed and pillow.
٢. فَبِتُّ يُجافيني تَهَلُّلُ دَمعِهِ
وَعَبرَتُهُ عَن مَضجَعي وَوِسادِ
3. So I said to him, gather your belongings and get ready to leave,
Do not fear any estrangement from me in this land.
٣. فَقُلتُ لَهُ قَرِّب قُتودَكَ وَاِرتَحِل
وَلا تَخشَ مِنّي جَفوَةً بِبِلادِ
4. And release the reins of the camel and let us travel together,
With strong resolve in our matter and proper guidance.
٤. وَخَلِّ زِمامَ العيسِ وَاِرحَل بِنا مَعاً
عَلى عَزمَةٍ مِن أَمرِنا وَرَشادِ
5. And go freely among the traveling folk, bidding farewell
To a kinsman, while the people are not wont to bid farewell.
٥. وَرُح رائِحاً في الرائِحينَ مُشَيّعاً
لِذي رَحِمٍ وَالقَومُ غَيرُ بِعادِ
6. We were happy with the caravan whose riders
Were heading from the valleys of the land of Iyad.
٦. فُرُحنا مَعَ العيرِ الَّتي راحَ رَكبُها
يَؤُمّونَ مِن غَورَينِ أَرضَ إِيادِ
