بكت أم بشر أن تبدد رهطها

1. The mother of Bishr wept that her people were scattered,
And that some of them had become lost and destroyed.

١. بَكَتْ أُمُّ بِشْرٍ أَنْ تَبَدَّدَ رَهْطُهَا
وأَنْ أَصْبَحُوا مِنْهُمْ شَرِيدٌ وهَالِكُ

2. Yet both your clans remain, though diminished,
As if death had not diminished their bonds.

٢. فَإِنَّ كِلاَ حَيَّيْكِ مِنْهُمْ بَقِيَّةٌ
لَوَ أَنَّ المَنَايَا حَالُهَا مُتَمَاسِكُ

3. Both dogs and partridges, their brothers night not,
Debased, nor do the roads wear them out.

٣. كِلاَبٌ وكَعْبٌ لاَ يَبِيتُ أَخُوهُمُ
ذَلِيلاً ولاَ تُعْيِي عَلَيْهِ المَسَالِكُ
