1. My tears do not freeze as they flow
Nor does the fire in my ribs fade

2. Except for the sickness of love that, as you see
Is a body that melts and blinking eyes that cry themselves to sleep

3. Should I plead with it with the promise of union?
Did it once have a soul that died from broken promises?

4. Shall we beg rain clouds that thundered
Hoping lightning will flash or thunder will roar?

5. Why do we hope for wishes when their screams
Cannot be heard and their cries do not avail

6. Ruined were the first generations that fell in love
Hoping for loyalty - something that cannot be found

7. The misery is that my heart still desires
One who finds disgrace agreeable and abstinence sweet

8. And when the kings of evil have conquered
By force - the does enslave me, the unweaned gazelle

9. Now the days have turned against me and my love
The generous Muhammad finds her hateful

10. The most pious, the protector, the best
The excellent, the virtuous, the glorious, the blessed

11. The perfect, the sword of his people
None can rise to his level or ascend to his rank

12. If there was ever a unique one in any age
Then this is the unique one in the age of excellence

13. The grass grows from his footsteps and the thirsty are quenched
By his winds, the withered revive and the bent stand tall

14. Eyes weary of him, though in battle
Every hair on him is a lion in the fray

15. Crowds will never be tired or bored in his presence
Though he is the only one in every group

16. No two in this world differ
In his merit - whether they witness it or not

17. With certainty the reasonable have no doubt
God's servant - none shall see what he worships

18. O son of the generous, defying the defiant
While time itself grovels youthfully at his feet

19. The generous of mankind and after them
Virtues and merits are narrated and supported

20. Those who left the world with knowledge and ascended to highness
Their traces and milestones are known

21. If the days have distanced me from you
Days will come closer to whoever you wish or distance

22. I remain true to my intention to draw near
Though the appointed time may be far

23. I will forever praise you sincerely
While the Caliph is blamed and praised

24. I have been stricken by time with an affliction
In which only you give me good fortune

25. No day of mine was brightened
By a blue-limbed enemy or black life

26. Settled in misery, sometimes keeping company
With outcasts, barefoot and shivering

27. Cloaked in the patience of nobles against harm
Veiled in a virtue that cannot be denied

28. If I lack the radiance known to the foolish
And the blind have not witnessed its brilliance

29. There is no shame in my misery, no pride for those
Who rise by fault or are ignorant in their effort

30. For long has the fly flown aimlessly in passion
While the humble beetle rests in the dust

31. To you belongs the delicate nightingale
Singing your praises for eternity in the branches

32. I made my dwelling with cowards
And left gardens where fires blaze

33. Freeing myself of worries and grief
For steel is softer than frozen tears

34. And I refused all but you in my praise
What need has a thirsty man but a well?

35. So receive from me a scroll of praise
That will be folded and spread through time and sung

36. And I salute and bid farewell, a human observing our age
An age where praising you is guided and leaned on

37. We are sailors bound to you over all people
With you as the aided and eternal
