1. My life has no meaning without love’s nourishment
The gazelles attain wisdom through keen sight

2. Of what use is Sa’d’s love whose fortune
Decrees every lover to be wretched

3. Pure beauties, with languid eyes, I never desired
Except to distinguish between safety and danger

4. My tears, from the heat of my soul, watered them
So tell the inflamed one to plunge into the drowned

5. They left while the caravan cries out, extending its neck
Bearing bracelets of pearls and jewels

6. Beauties, like moist branches upon
An eyebrow that combines dawn and nightfall

7. I passed the dawn guarding a vengeance-taker
And the dawn’s illumination guarding a passionate one

8. As if the essence of wondrous beauty
Became, at dawn, like the sun in the east or the moon on the horizon

9. I am most partial to them, radiating among them
Are compositions perfectly proportioned

10. When my ribs obeyed the decree of their pain
The judgments of love’s fire proved true

11. Since the separated curl appeared on the forehead
My faith grew stronger by night and at dawn

12. I see my time folded up on desolation
Like water folded up for a thirsty one on the east

13. It is as if one of my envious enemies disdains them
Indeed, the envious are the vessel of folly and scorn

14. He has tried to separate us altogether
While all that is joined between us comes apart

15. I do not diminish - no matter how much I have severed -
In weakness, like a star crossing the horizon

16. I carried from the stench of separation what I carried
Of tears from my eyes or wakefulness from my insomnia

17. She does not settle on land or is restless upon it
As if she were the heart of sadness itself from worry

18. And desire no longer remains in her soul
Other than that which in loftiness remains

19. He whose merits his enemies cannot attain
And have not transported from the highest of heights

20. The son of the Emir, the best of all time- Ahmad - praised
In diverse tongues by all peoples

21. No sooner does any of its prosperity dissipate
Than that which is at variance comes into accord

22. His wealth has watered his life pouring forth
For he is the obtainer of plenty

23. Say my forbidden tears are permitted him
I watered his burial place with pouring ones

24. Dust covers him while praise displays him
Like the spreading of pages when they are folded

25. He passed away and left me behind for the people
While rain leaves behind the spreading of a fragrant meadow

26. We did not lose sight of his father in seeing him
The cub is like the lion in nature and character

27. O you whose resolves are strengthened with more glory,
Like a swift horse steadying the galloping of release

28. And who can express his handsome grace
While water can speak of its own clarity through blueness

29. And who can versify my poetry in praise of him
While pearls gracefully studded on a necklace

30. O Prince - We witnessed praiseworthy traits
That alter one’s perspective to the most delicate

31. Like a meadow, but without the thorns of its flowers
And a pond, but clearing without blueness

32. Your determination emerged, unsatisfied with status
For you are of a class ever rising to the next

33. Woe to the envious one finding you possess them
He has erred while error is counted as a rip

34. Can fire display the hatred that illuminates it
Or wither the vile people because of it

35. The people flock to a land in which you dwell
It is as if your door has become the place of all roads

36. Glory spreads; grace flows openly from you
Leaving description behind and who can ascend glory with lightning?

37. Submit to the ladder of this honor climbing it
And whoever deceives you becomes disgraced in a burrow

38. And here are stray thoughts
Like sorcery in the glimpses of a wide-eyed dawn

39. Sweeter than perfume in the rests of an early riser
And the gentle flow in heavy-lidded eyes

40. Bestowing upon you endless praise
More lasting and impervious than a vocalized recitation
