1. The ardour of passion blocks the path of the indifferent beloved
And some of the loved ones' vows bring all calamities

2. And the worst malady of love is your love turning ascetic
Yet if he denies you, a yearning heart turns to you

3. And the greatest deprivation is to complain silently
While your love is a chain on the watering places of drinking

13. Shall I let you taste the burden of love? What capacity have you shown?
For its burning has set aflame a heart that loved the beautiful maidens

14. And know that no favour comes after tribulation
That brings hope, nor is the absentee blamed

15. I am not faultless, and passion misleads
If passion calls me right, a rational friend contradicts

16. So my heart is blind though many try to save it
And in it a victor lacks a victor

17. Yet I warn without having experienced
That the test of love comes after trials

18. Perhaps they would say: "Beware of what you seek
So restrain yourself from attaining it like a seeker"

19. I am one who has endured deadly perils
And in active battle, I am white like the fast sailing ships

20. It has judged me like time, with no defence against
Its judgements, and the sea toys not with me

21. My heart by the magic of her eyes
Is like swords of "Son of Swords" piercing battalions

22. The brother of overpowering surprises that seem
Wondrous sights in the eyes of wonders

23. And the son of the martyred superior Ali
Its generosity quenched it like pouring rain

24. It left continuing after it
That which remains in us enduring, not departing

25. Like David when he inherited
From his son Solomon the spreading of wisdom

26. In excellence and merit he improved both states for us
Gaining fine compatibility in both conditions

27. Pardoning his enemies, not punishing them
For they are debts on the necks of grants

28. Its brilliances like the dawn lights
Rising in the darkness, leaving white tents

29. When ambitions the size of mountains are granted
By its lofty aspirations, even hilltops bow

30. When the hands of hopes are adorned with some of it
The hearts of endeavours attain every absent goal

31. O you, at whose summons deaths race
To the enemies, outstripping fate

32. And who, whenever the expanse narrows with an enemy host
Feels as narrow as the chest burned with a hot brand

33. His hands shatter the armies with his spear
You would think them the hands of warriors amidst the fray

34. On the day when the sun shades before its darkness
And his Armil constellation rises with the holes

35. And we rain on him clouds of stars whenever
The white hands of Canopus rise like lightning

36. The hot desert burns with him, but he does not announce
The neighing of the wild asses mingling with the croaking frogs

37. In him the shod, the barefoot, and the slippered
Weddings, fangs, and claws

38. As if the ribs of the armoured are notebooks
And his spears on them writing reeds

39. The terms of the enemies have dispersed
And his swords amidst the throng subtracting accountants

40. O best of those the spirit poured for a nation
Pouring over its shoulders and prominent stars

41. You would think its violet pastures were Hyacinths
In undisturbed water appearing not flowing

42. And you'd assume their rings had gathered
The eyes of snakes in the skins of scorpions

43. And the beholder imagines the heads of its calves
Wine froth formed from a pouring cup

44. Just as the pastures were polished by the shining dawn
Improving them by the blowing of the gentle winds

45. The meadows wish to pick their roses
While the emaciated by hardship distrust the thorns

46. Were it not for the fine rain from its April clouds
The fox would not have reached them to devour

47. Through it the anguished is secured, the intimidated fortified
The thirsty finds water, the diver finds treasure

48. Like my brother's pardon, patience and loyalty
And the torrent of a valley obstructed at Ma’rib

49. If alongside my utmost passion, being by your side
With my heart and constant devotion was denied me

50. By a time of dimmed authority and ebbing flood
That gave my position to some strangers

51. The order may improve in other than its right people
And the rancour of sword flames in the hand of a striker

52. Though desire has encamped me for an event
And destinations narrowed for the well-bred horses

53. I see what lies between me and you clearly
As what lies between my eye and its brow

54. To you, the Solomon of time, I incite it
With the wails of poetry like howling wailers

55. Indeed praise, abundant and lasting, burdened it
While passion weighed down my mounts

56. So take the best gift and we hope it is accepted
Prince of glorious deeds, O Prince of prominent stars!

57. And do not listen after it to the verse of a poet
For the voice of songs is not the braying of a hound

58. And if it is said poetry rules are all the same
The Friesian's fire is not the fire of thorns

59. All songs may share the same principle, but they favoured
The bow of the brow over the bowstring

60. You remain eternally praiseworthy
And always steady through the ages

61. And you still watch carefully over the times
Guarding against its pitfalls and consequences

62. For its sons have sleeping hearts
And open eyes like rabbits
