1. When you deny virtue, you remain thirsty for vain pleasures,
Seeking illusion to quench your thirst.
١. وإذا حرمت الجد ظلت من الدنا
ظمآن تستقي غروراً آلها
2. Had you considered the matter, wisdom would have given you
The taste to differentiate the unlawful from the lawful.
٢. ولو اعتبرت الأمر أعطاك الحجا
ذوقاً يمج حرامها وحلالها
3. And you would have seen that whoever seeks these pleasures
Will suffer the calamities of time.
٣. ورأيت ما أهوى إليها قاصد
إلا وعاني دهره أهوالها
4. And you would have known that if you follow the paths
Of temptation, shackles will pursue you.
٤. وعلمت ما إن قلدت من منها
الأعناق حتى أتبعت أغلالها
5. Whether prosperous or destitute, your life remains the same
No matter how you ponder its outcomes.
٥. سيان عيشك في ذراها موسرا
أو معسراً مهما افتكرت مآلها
6. She is a tattered harlot, unfit for the wise,
Who chose her deceit over their counsel.
٦. هي مومس خرقاء لم تصلح لها
العقلاء خدنا فاصطفت جهالها
7. So beware the seduction of her sons, for it is
Idolatry, and the seduced are trapped in her ropes.
٧. فاحذر غويا من بنيها إنها
شرك وقد أمسى الغواة حبالها
