1. Longing for you returns to me
And I am overcome with yearning and sighing

2. You were distant, so my heart became hard as rock
Yet even rocks can soften over time

3. I lost my patience in my zeal for you
Thus does the miserly lose what he clings to

9. I saw the hardness of love become easy
For even difficulties can be softened

10. As for your love being my heart's meaning
A right hand I do not turn or bend

11. Desire left its imprint on me
Revealing hidden truths not seen by eyes

12. Passion accompanied me, while separation blinded me
A helper, pouring forth copious tears

13. If grief left any part of me whole
yearning and sorrow would tear it apart

14. If death drew your love away from me
My mortal form would fail death itself

15. If you saw what passion has brought me
You would go mad, for love itself is madness

16. My day is dark, life constricted
As if I were Jonah and fate the whale

17. Misfortunes address me at all times
While friends and companions distance themselves

18. I do not deny the flaws that befell me
For even musk is tested by trials

19. I hoped for clarity from a friend
Whose nature is but water and clay

20. I submitted to the endless days
Only to whom eons submit

21. Nor beseeched fate with faithful prayers
While in it triumphs the noble petitioner

From roots high branches arose

23. A prince we seek refuge in
As cubs in the lion's den

24. Fulfilling all hopes placed in him
As if benevolence were incumbent upon him

25. Excellence and praise remain his treasure
While meanness accompanies no praise

26. So revive these hopes, o reviver of bounty
For in your success, my hopes are assured

27. The generous died, no savior remains
Other than you, no helper or ally

28. If not for your magnanimity assisting me
No hand would extend to my hopes

29. If not for the security of your justice in wilds
No heels would rest in sandals there

30. If your gaze did not encompass the world
No gazes would take in sights there

31. If you released it to chaos and turmoil
Stillness would not accompany disturbance

32. If you reached nations in their homelands
Pagans would become believers

33. You rose above the heavens, so high
Your armies narrowed valleys and mountains

34. You led a hardy army against enemies
Destroying their citadels and fortresses

35. Your wrath at enemies asking for truces
Erased them like certainty doubt

36. As if the blood of enemies within you
Were a stream coursing to join water

37. Your merit needs no praise
What can obscure a manifest dawn?

38. So persist, O Master, in an age
Harsh to me, while you are its ally
