1. The days shone bright with you, and Aleppo rose high,
And now our meteors are below the meteors.

2. God has granted you the justice with which you dealt justly,
Balancing natures and exalting merits.

3. Wisdom and knowledge in ruling and in judgment
Erase doubts or clarify suspicions.

4. With excellence in every matter you cling closely,
Excellence in affairs recited in books.

5. With eloquence in speech you have reached
The highest eloquence the Arabs do not wish for.

6. You advance, observing in a matter all but you observe,
And about it the staffs have been broken.

7. As if it is a snake in the hands of a lion,
With it the black and the lions accompany each other.

8. Pure and flowing for one whose wood is straight
In it are righteousness and crookedness.

9. And in the end, even if I were angry with you,
I fear the living honorable and firm.

10. And perhaps the silent rocks deter wise guidance
From you, though the silent rock shakes.

11. It is as if each part of you, on the day of covering
The most unjust rightfully angry peaks.

12. O you who drag the tail of grace from his virtues,
If only I could attain the tracks of clouds.

13. Raising the house of glory that has risen with pegs
Upon the highest, and the rope of the well is long.

14. How can you believe a group of people
When Allah testifies that they have lied?

15. And how can you incline at the appointed time those who hastened
To worship a calf? Strange indeed!

16. The greatest sin, about which there is no dispute,
Is that the servant worships a lord behind sin.

17. You know more than me about them, and the eminent
In knowledge, nothing that must be done escapes them.

18. In me is the bitterness of rough livelihood,
Which I loathe, and its wretchedness has pained me,

19. Until it has presented to my thirst
Death in the mouth of purpose like a tooth.

20. If my dove drank, it would be sweeter than
The torment of a lifelong effort.

21. I am pleased with worldly discontent,
For the generous, when disrespected, get angry.

22. And I am not in all its affairs
Except your servant the noted noted one.

23. You have high ambitions and strive
For the highest, whom the era of morals has debased.

24. My lord, best giver to people for us
From time, whose nature does not give.

25. Whoever has pure pearls of the highest clouds
Veiled, and meteors veil themselves at sunrise.

26. Excellent is my lord in an era dressed with
Honor from allegiances, and some merit is gained.

27. Be kind to me and pardon me, for with it
Poetry is won that is loved and selected poetry obtained.

28. In the heart roams worry about its wonders,
And sometimes the request in some is valid for me.

29. So here it is, like the flames of fire from an
Inflamed liver, though the fruits of the blazing fire.

30. I cannot describe you in full,
Even if my lifetime is prolonged and youth renewed.

31. For the utmost of my hope to attain
Is beyond the lofty fatigue of effort.
