Unblemished by any trace of time

And exchanged sweet conversation

5. We did not complain of misfortune though
Its blows deafened our ears

6. On nights that were most beautiful to lovers
When belief in love held sway over them

7. So I strayed from knowing your names
After matching hearing to insight

8. That which you traced between us
No paper bore it, no ink conveyed it

9. Honor comes from your dwelling, so if
You asked the late night caller, the faithful friend

10. About answering it, how fares
He who frightened the lion in its den, yet was a refuge

Crying out, I blame the ages

16. O people of precious ruby, your blood
After your loss is coral tears

17. You sped like meteors overcamels’ backs
With braided forelocks, riding unreined

18. Lighten your pace, hasten, rouse Isa's steed
As it challenges the horizons

19. And sing to the camels with al-Husayn's verse
At its meaning the saddlebags stir

20. He is the eloquent poet of meanings
Son of one whose poetry Hasan beautified

21. He who is sad takes comfort in it, every
Promise he fulfills, he calms the wrathful

22. Borrowing eloquence and magic from him
Whatever is subtle and refined in rhetoric

23. Trailing glory and clouds behind
Not like Jarir in what he dragged and trailed

24. When the gloom of formidable problems shrouds
The flash of his understanding pierces like a spearhead

25. He rocks in praise, toppling him with kindness
As the whiskers of the lion shook with delight

26. The nights extolled his glory and were generous
Wondrous is his constant benevolence

27. He draws the cloak of perfection and refinement over me
Modest however much the shirts wrap round

28. If you scent the lightning flash of his virtues
Lightning is followed by reverberating thunder

29. God forbid that he be compared to any
Other person - through his poetry meters stand upright

30. O most beloved friend, O ransom
You are the human in your companions' eyes

31. The season smiled and turned pleasant
Nature settled into place and pillars stood firm

32. So unload your worries from the heart's saddlebags
And see how the seals have opened

33. I send you hints to dispel
All your sorrows with subtle meanings

34. That charm our times and place
Whose name was coast of a sea

35. And he's described as Oman
It cuts across caravans and deserts, a sorcerer

36. Camels' litters are yoked to it for years on end
No hands of men can reach it but

37. It remains for ages under women's feet, disgraced
It spread through the land with a poison

38. That hurts human and beast alike
Present, absent, near, far

39. Capable, helpless, rich, destitute
It's a necklace that adorns every full moon

40. Above a branch beneath the sand dunes
With it the grindstone is named as it

41. Stands still or keeps revolving
A newborn child is called by it

42. And it dispels the mother's contractions
God placed in it a profound mystery

43. The law ordered submission to it
It is the grave of someone walking, forming

44. A symbol traced by relinquishment, adorned by radiance
It lies discarded on the road but

45. For us it holds no abasement
Each time I speak it my words

46. Resemble it in sound but meaning reveals it
So answer it, do not disappoint me

47. Since solving it is a favor upon us
May you remain calling the noble ones

48. As steadfast as the goodness that prays to never be disgraced
