1. The beginning of love's affliction is cruelty in love,
And its end is complaining of harsh meaning.

2. So whoever lets love's illnesses enter his heart,
Should despair of being cured.

3. And whoever chooses destruction for himself firmly,
The glances' injustice is not just upon him.

4. Did enemies strip themselves for battle fury,
Against a hero firmer than love sharpened?

5. The palm tree of generosity did not build its branches
With its tranquility, protecting it and being gentle.

6. And whoever it chooses of its harvest, picks it
Let alone whoever it drops for him picked.

7. And it deposited in the world twenty justifications
For one to sense it with the mouth savored.

8. So it came like the meadow's perfume, its seal opened,
Fragrant, and the rooster's eye clear in its cup.

9. It amazed minds more than the magic of his eyelid,
And snatched away from it whoever drinks it addicted.

10. I advised you with knowledge of what you don't know,
So make me a bringer of good news to you and aide.

11. If one asks God for protection, then let
A questioner seek it, not to see fearful.

12. So how many self-respects of a guided one were humbled,
By a youth who would not find but honor congenial.

13. With a questioner whose tears have wept
Blood, and a quarter whistled, its questioner whistled.

14. Oblivion erased it, erasing ardor for its trace,
From passion, so the blamer addresses complaining.

15. If forgetting could erase the echo, its echo would
Return to it, every lover visiting and raving.

16. But they are fantasies of a heart led to love's madness,
Led astray, and whoever is led astray is mad.

17. In me is a lesson for the seer if the people considered
The lesson of one whose tears flow and pours.

18. It plunges me in the deep valleys of oblivion
An environment in which patience is impossible and ardently sought.

19. And excessive anguish exhausts anguish leading it
As remedy, and who can cure anguish and regret?

20. If only the days of youth lasted like my youth,
Remaining, and if only gazelles lasted like loyalty.

21. And if only wishes were like death, quick
To us, and if only intention was like a leaping gazelle.

22. So the world would not go far, its hopes near,
Nor would the beloved draw near, coquetting.

23. And whoever asks the days to change their ways
Is like one who asks a Shiite to become Sunni.

24. It burdens them with what was not of their nature,
And what was innate will not change, burdened.

25. Blamer, and blame weighs down my hearing,
And I hear from it words twisted.

26. It says, "Do you remain passionate after passion is ignited
And the ashes and embers remain?"

27. "And does it tempt you when you see a band
Prostrate to an idol like pre-Islamic times?"

28. "And gray hair has inscribed, repealing
Youth, in the parchment of your head, letters."

29. "It is time your bending articulate, explaining
To your hearing, the dictation of your weakness, a transcript."

30. "And certainly you must not beg foolishly and if you see harm,
You do not fear loss, and fear to dread."

31. So I said to it, "Or do you tire of blaming, a method?
And attaining glory, the Lord of all virtues chose it.

32. The brother of complete pure generosity that no
Promise corrupts, nor gives you in it procrastination.

33. "And the one whose apparent bounties, its bliss
Covers you, as if the meadow was enveloped.

34. "And discloser of the ambiguities of knowledge, with insight
Through which the exegete's superiority is clear."

35. "And he built the pillars of righteousness and the guide of misguidance
A floor from which it became evened."

36. "O son of the high ones, his glorious deeds
Remain for us, traces to good we pursue."

37. "Clemency to his glory's enviers whom no
Solace satisfies except pain for them and no clemency."

38. Since they kept the heat of rancor, themselves anguished,
And the soul's sickness remained to the soul destructive.

39. "And he tired God's creation staying up nights
And observed the stars therein to eclipse."

40. "For you is the good you have not broken a promise of mine
And none like me leaves promises unfulfilled."

41. "And I am not like one who is quick to consent to a matter
Then sits from it out of fear and evasion."

42. "And I have no incapacity or suspicion,
And one with incapacity or suspicion has no concealment."

43. "But my time has prevented my goals,
Unjust, and the way of time is to oppress me."

44. "My hand grew weary of carrying the banner carefully
And the well-groomed pen grew tired."

45. "And my fingers grew bored of writing's method
And I was not of those who paused compositions."

46. "And whoever feeds the concern, the determination of himself
And inhabits the heart's house extravagantly."

47. "There is much preoccupation with an ocean of paper
So how can one dictate to me a book composed?"

48. "So present them - may the star guide you -
And make famous my house and the gazelle most affectionate."

49. "And the lights of spring's blossoms, our beauties
And the bending of the garden's branches bending."

50. "And the melodies of lutes and prepared,
The voices of singers and cooing doves' chirping."

51. "Special praise in a paper of praise
Prose which flatters one who composes prose."

52. "In which the harvest of the monastery is your longing
And the affliction of one who seeks acceptance, your anticipation."

53. "To unload it from the abundance of your merit a stream
And acquaint it with your forbearance's personality most upright."

54. "Remaining the remaining of praise in you eternalized
And you continued the continuity of merit from you exalted."

55. "And you still receive safety in the hearing of one frightened
Like the reception of sin in the well, Joseph."

56. "For you are from people whose glory, when estimated
Settled stable, or their good deed's estimation evaporated."

57. "They are the sublime in rank
And they are the best of the world, and other than them bowed."

58. "It suffices one who prays to repel blame
And it satisfies you in the occurrence of blame, he who sufficed."

59. "I remained with praise's survival in you immortalized
And you remained with merit's continuity from you exalted."

60. "And you still find safety in the hearing of one scared
As Joseph received sin at the bottom of the well."

61. "For they are a people whose glory, when valued
Settled steadily, or their good deed’s appraisal rose high."
