1. Molana Al-Huraizi has excelled,
He deserves praise, not Al-Hariri.

2. His eloquence in words matches their meaning,
Sibki praises him in categories of praise.

3. He has solved the pinnacle of knowledge with logic,
Whose origin is intuitive and evident.

4. His insight suffices due to his brilliance,
Giving you what Basri and Kufi said.

5. Every strange meaning in poems has for him
A melody built on whatever makes you sing.

6. Knowledge and forbearance in his wisdom and restraint,
He's beyond Ibn Qays and Molana Al-Jannani.

7. When compared to him, Al-Asma'i,
Seems deaf, though his diction is keen.

8. He praised me beyond what resolves aim to grasp,
While he is in his lofty delight.

9. His poetry ascended the pinnacle of poetry, and made us sense
What it concealed from perceptions.

10. More blazing and fragrant than the scent of the morning breeze,
As if his magical poetry is sorcery itself.

11. It excelled in taste, so Al-Safī did not purify for us
A rose thereafter, nor did Al-Nabati distill.

12. Delicacy that dominates the palm of his hand,
While silk yields to it naturally.

13. His sweetness arrests the hearing of man,
If it passes the hearing of a wild beast.

14. Each verse of his poems
Is a niche with the people's hearing yearning for it.

15. I matched him with my counter rhyming,
With rhymes that even Kindi did not attain before.

16. As one blessed with bounty offers a meal,
And urges the parasite to have a morsel from it.

17. I do not deliver a fraction of his eloquence,
For even pebbles confound Al-Qatami.

18. If I came up with one of his amazing meanings,
That is merely a narrative reported about him.

19. If you fancied that I resembled him,
In prose or poetry, the matter is not hidden.

20. Water may resemble the family in its shape,
But it cannot quench the thirst of Al-Hashari.

21. O you who strips and covers with his garments,
When he sees you donning your stripping garments.

22. He was the first to say silk does not suffice,
To line the gem of this jeweler.

23. Among his virtues is pleasing Ar-Radi,
And for Ar-Razi, he has satisfactory words.

24. It suffices you the proximity of the most excellent patron,
He has transcended, so he is the duration’s praise and provident.

25. One earns the honor of peers,
Had it not been for pretension, Taymi would not have elevated you.

26. One worldly, and this, from you, religious.
A poem the thought of which illuminates

27. The dawn of purpose, its importance formidable to Dujaji.
From one whose heart hosts passion,

28. And whose tearful eyelids lament.
His eyelids find no rest one moment,

29. As if celestial in glance, celestial.
I complain of the humiliation of my love's yearning for a gazelle,

30. As if my passion for it is my excuse.
One of the misfortunes of my days I noticed,

31. As if it is my sword, and he is my sword.
How can I confine some of its incidents,

32. When all that the days relate is comprehensive?
Patience, even if the taste of my patience is chaste for me,

33. No protector has protected against the turns of fate.
Thawī Al-Ḥijāzī passed away wrongfully estranged,

34. And did not last in Iraq, his final abode.
Fate is the same with us in its disposition—

35. The Qurayshi elegy and the base Ziyadi elegy.
One of the mind’s follies is to be angered

36. By demise, and pleased by wishes.
I hope you blend my patchy poem with acceptance, for if

37. You accept it, the composition thereby gains integrity.
The mind rarely accepts it disjointed,

38. Even if Al-‘Aqīlī gifted me with it whole.
For you are from the sole to the earth,

39. While above the earth, the banner of praise is folded for him.
I have clung to a land and entrusted in it,

40. So all Rashīd’s decisions guide from you.
No land disappoints when fertile

41. It was named for Allah's prophet, and named for him.
