1. Does he think me a gazelle or an untamed beast
That I should fear the snare and honey paste?

2. He whose glances and absence make me lose my way
And give guidance and misguidance away

3. I'd ransom him for a beauty never before created
By the Compassionate - such grace and perfection

4. His glances intoxicate and his gaze makes me dizzy
Like a startled doe or frightened chameleon

5. Wherever I see him, his body's like water
My image I find reflected in his form

6. I fear seeking his hand due to his dignity
Else he'd extend it if not for propriety's veil

7. He shone out of the darkness with his secret
Before an alarmed and skittish steed

8. We left him to the dark, dyeing his beard
It was time to dye it or shave it all away

9. He pulled back, leaving my short night prolonged
For darkness is oppressive when prolonged

10. Frustrated from staying with his words
The guide refuses a nature inclined to humiliation

11. And the lover of passion fears the watcher and spy
While union follows once ennui is prolonged

12. So I praised him and blamed the three:
Refusal, fascination, and haste

13. And I was more shocked by his slender waist
When farewelling, though he carried burdens

14. And for his beauty, how he won my virgins
So I saw my enviers burdened by him

15. And for my hopes to succeed through him I courted
Yet I see no hopes can succeed in this world

16. From the family of Sayf, the Prince Muhammad Al-Hali
Bestowal, if the state is complained of

17. The generous who give before being asked
Generosity, if questioning does not appear in it

18. The killer of enemies with the resolves that
If unsheathed were keen blades and sharp swords

19. A fierce lion who with his might brings destruction
Yet without might, a lion could not be fierce

20. He is peerless in his time which is subdued by him
Knowing no retreat or advance

21. Fated by the decrees to tamely
Go right or wander left

22. If he disputes the stars' heights
No dispute would shine to him

23. If he contends with the moons' beauties
They would bow to him in all their glory

24. When he is joyful, none but the heroic are met
Filling hearts with awe and majesty

25. And with bestowal, none but the worthy are found
Blessings and gifts encompassing the lands

26. He owns the heights, so began to begrudge
Generosity out of nobility and spends wealth to ascend

27. So people are two: one carrying a burden
And one burdened with loads

28. Of a family who captured dignity and walked
The path of glory and did good deeds

29. If they met a mountain, they'd reduce it to pebbles
If they struck the sea, they'd leave it bare

30. Disappointment befalls he who shows enmity to them
As one who wants the sun's setting at noon

31. And loss meets he who rivals them, and I think him
One who seeks the stars' heights

32. He wants to fight them, but it's not possible
To fight pigeons and think it war

33. My unique one in time, son of the unique one
Men are cowards, so do not fear men

34. Look upon me with the eye of a protector
For time has been most unjust to me

35. Ungrateful to my company more than its sons
Wronging me more in deeds

36. We see diminishment from it, yet who has seen
Increase before decrease was deemed strange?

37. I do not hope to ever leave your door
Until my limbs and head part

38. Aiming for goodness in staying with you
For I sought the best migrations

39. But your vision made me forget the fever
And family, so terrors seemed trivial

40. I swear by the Compassionate, I am not
Speaking nonsense or impossibilities

41. So show your favors which I am an infant of
Send your infant your affection as a child

42. And conquer my enemies for they are many
The anklets, brothers, and in-laws

43. For you are more worthy than one from whom
If begging, I'd extend my palms despite disgrace

44. I am envied in all affairs for the generous
Will always be envied

45. Were it not for punishment I'd say you distribute
Rizq, lifespans, and death times
