He who has pledged his heart unto death,

1. He who has pledged his heart unto death,
A face he borrowed, accepting and kind,

2. A face like the moon in its radiant light,
In it, a garden of beauty to find.

3. Too fair your beauty for borrowed attire,
And the pledge of my love to be undone,

4. In love's dominion, two spirits entwine,
Like water and wine mixed in a cup as one.
