Stirring the branches of the sidr trees and the dripping rain,

2. In the stillness of the night my love came,
After I had fallen asleep, restless,

3. He came while the night's veil was lowered,
A lover knowing the ways of affection,

With a soft voice whose echoes followed,

He replied "A lover hastening to union".

7. When we met he asked "Are you well,
If you are human and your robe is sound?"

8. Live you and your two noble sons in the Highest,
While your enemies are accustomed to loss and humiliation,

9. My glory and pride are in your triumphs and ascensions,
And in your power, unequalled among men,

10. And despite the envious who oppose you,
I pick the fruits of your generosity, a welcome gleaner,

11. Obedient and humble before you I stand,
Hearing what you say, not disobeying your command.
