1. My beloved, after the long lost years
Is there a return to the days of vanished youth?

2. Are there still neighbors gathered in the curve?
Or are they dispersed in the barren plain?

3. Does that lover, long gone, remember

Despite the passing of evenings and dawning morns

5. As we passed the abode which decayed
We quenched its soil amidst stone graves

6. There we wept - but does weeping avail
In the expanse of the fading relics?

7. An abode whose company has vanished
Naught remains but the gazelles of the wild

8. A girl whose face shines as if
It were the moonlight in an infidel's gloom

9. Languid eyelids, alluring glances, faded
Like kohl - and of what use is faded kohl?

10. A form slender as an Indian blade
Sheathed in its cover

11. A neck graceful as the neck of a doe -
Delight of one who beholds

12. A chest in which rests a pearl
Though it acts with the hostility of fighting bulls

13. A waist so slight, weak as my litheness
Hips full as the filled water-skin

14. The whites of her eyes from behind the veil
Enslave all souls when she glances

15. A life that is death and death to lovers
And a sickness to the distant, yet balm to the confidant

16. Leave her be, and distract your heart with one
Who is sublime - all presence and all absence

17. The guiding king - the Arabs' virtuous youth
Scion of the Sultan bin Sayf al-Munaser

18. A palm whose generosity knows no parallel
And a sea of gifts that brooks no comparison

19. He rose high over protector of renowns
Above the kings of the wilds with constant humidity

20. A prince whose goal is attaining praise and glory
And dispersing wealth between complainant and commander

21. His speech grants men discernment
His face's radiance is like the rising suns

22. His visit makes hearts shine, removing rust
The sight of his smile clears thoughts

23. He benefits the loyal ones with his generosity
And destroys the enemies with spear and cannon

24. When he fights, unmatched are the audacious lionesses
And when he gives, unparalleled are the roaring seas

25. Stern towards enemies - yet his way
When the offender seeks refuge, is pardoning and able

26. You were created from the clay of a Western palm
Which ascended in nobility over all clays

27. You are the youth, son of youth, father of youth
Whose mention echoes from the pulpits

28. You have attained the heights, glory, forbearance and dignity
And dispensed gifts from magnificent ancestors

29. You have spread justice and mercy over all people
So that each innocent and offender submitted

30. And even the one who persisted refusing your Lord
Admitted to receiving your burgeoning charity

31. And I continued to survey all people
And found none but those grateful and thankful

32. So O son of the generous ancients, show kindness
To one whose affection is sincere in his visit

33. You have clothed me in eloquent praise
With which I wandered lost, saying - can this be outdone?

34. Increasing upon the nights' passage, renewing
Unfaded by the turning of time

35. Verses of poetry surpassing in their composition
The Strings of Tarsh, scattered like pearls

36. They came to you swaying like brides
Adorned in necklaces of pearls and jewels

37. When recited loudly to the gathering
They probe the hidden secrets of consciences

38. If the ancients of our people heard them
They would be misguided in sight and perception

39. Lofty, wandering above her peers
In refined and lucid diction

40. You are matched to her, faithful - so accept her
And show her the excellence of acceptance and initiative

41. She is the lucid jewel - none deserves her
But you, of the eminent lords, O son of the magnificent

42. I have gifted her to you, hoping through her for victory
From God, the Creator, the All-Forgiving

43. Continue, preserved in glory, triumphant
And may your opposite be inverted in desire, unsuccessful
