1. Three things destroy a man: uncontrolled rage,
hastiness, and immorality. Beware of them, my friend.
١. ثلاثٌ هلاك المرءِ فيهما فخلِّها
وعاصِ الهوى يا أيُّهذا المرابِثُ
2. Three things make a man righteous:
fulfilling one's duties, speaking the truth, and pure intentions.
٢. هي الغضبُ المذمومُ والعجلة التي
تذمُّ مع الأخيارِ والفحشُ ثالثُ
3. Three things ruin one's health and heart:
overindulging in sinful desires, gluttony,
٣. ثلاثٌ بهنّ المرء يصلحُ دينَه
ويحمدُ بالخيراتِ عند البريةِ
4. and oversleeping in the mornings.
٤. خلاصُ الفَتى من كل حقٍّ لربِّه
وصدقٌ يواخيه وإخلاصُ نيَّةِ
٥. ثلاثٌ سقامُ الجسمِ والقلبِ عندها
وصاحبها في الشرِّ طولَ حياتِه
٦. فكثرةُ وطْءِ للغواني وتخمة
وكثرةُ نومِ المرءِ في غُدواتِه
