1. Your distance, O sweet of intimacy, or disdain
And your disdain, O gentle of character, or distance

2. You were distant, so my heart grew more longing and sorrow
You drew near, so worries, sadness and love increased

3. If there is no escape from these two, then I have
No consolation, nor escape from seeing you

4. I am indeed worried, thinking, and confused
If this estrangement and disdain persist for me

5. What is this intention, distance, estrangement, shortness
And your indifference, aloofness, entry and hatred?

6. It is no wonder that after your estrangement
Tears flow down my cheeks, barely contained

7. And I cannot be rid of the heaviness of rejecting me
If you do not generously allow union and love

8. A maiden whose forehead the sun shines radiantly upon
Blessed with happiness, tresses cascading down

9. Branches, is that your soft form or threads of pearls
Swaying on hips, or is that your stature?

10. Under the rubies of your lips, a pearl and gems
Is it the love of pearls or your kisses or your necklace?

11. Your face, is it a full moon or a shining sun?
Your cheek, is it pure water or a rose?

12. In your polished chest, a sharpened spear
Rivaled only by true ivory or breast

13. It almost takes the heart by its coolness
Melting it, neither skin nor heart can stop it

14. Is your wrist this or radiance and silver?
Your saliva, is it wine or honey or nectar?

15. Of wonders, your saliva in my mouth
Is cool, soothing water, yet in my liver, blazing

16. It kindles the fire of yearning, passion and sorrow
Wondrous that its coals are cooled by it

17. A cure and affliction for hearts, as it
Melts entrails, heart and liver when near

18. A cure if proximity allowed a kiss
An affliction as distance kept it from us

19. Wondrous than this, your body is soft
While your heart, O gentle one, is hard as stone

20. Do you purify, O heart, love from one who does not love me?
One who does not reciprocate love does not deserve it

21. You are not in my heart if you love any
But those of gratitude, nobility and generosity

22. Whose palm is an ocean, whose Nile constantly flows
Whose fear dwells in the hearts of enemies at dawn

23. Who shames the valiant with might and force
Whose wealth is spread by delegates in generosity

24. Who scorns the world as reward for one who praises him
Every eye desires to see him when he appears

25. In whose hands is command and prohibition in the lands
To whom thanks and praise belongs in the heights

26. In whose hands lies kingship, justice and guidance
To order affairs of people, solutions and bonds

27. Who in the true religion is righteous
Whose rule makes him unique

28. He is justice, Sultan bin Saif bin Malik
The guiding imam, the pure, distinguished and wise king

29. He abstains from similes about the sea at ease
But the reach of his hands is sufficient for him

30. Not a lion in might, but he learned
So honor from his might made lions cubs to him

31. No worker but you are his blade
No rest but you are its purpose

32. No resolute but you are his wing
No executioner but you are his edge

33. Command time as you wish, it obeys
Submissive to the order of its trusted master

34. His call to arms shames clouds gathering rain
Generosity with no need for lightning or thunder

35. Your defiance of tyrants is white blades
A school, yellow banners, drawn swords

36. Destruction, decay, fallen, and furies
Old age, youth, giants, and solid

37. You defend the world as if you were its father
Caring for all people who are your children

38. For you are a sword, O son of the sword of Malik
Your son is a sword and time is your sheath

39. You are in power, glory and esteem
A king to whom fortune and misfortune are equal

40. Without you, time would make people regretful
Righteousness and propriety would not be known

41. Nor would the true religion or guidance appear
Neither glory proclaimed nor help come

42. People would not fear a day of slumber
The sword of truth would not be drawn or covenant spread

43. No walls or Kaaba would stand for the faith
Neither sanctuary rise nor glory built

44. So strive with what perishes, though enemies abound
Strive with what remains, like immortality

45. How can this perish when its reward
Remains, lasting eternally, nothing beyond it?

46. If you wished its benefits, then journey to it
In peace, no questions or promises made

47. Good tidings to you, O clan of Ya'rub, you
Ascended sublimely to the highest summit

48. Below you, brides adorned were brought to you
From whom musk, ambergris and roses diffused

49. A bride in the coolness of the bridal chamber
Surpassing what the like of her contained in coolness

50. Her father beautiful, al-Murrid her uncle
Qais her uncle, Aus her grandfather

51. So grant her a plentiful dowry, for she wants
Only your company, honor in requesting you her aim

52. She travels the path of the sun, east and west
Revealing your generosity, though enemies disapprove

53. Melodies, which if recited one day in a gathering
Would diffuse from it fragrance, joy and tenderness

54. Spreading praise nothing can obscure
If it plunges into the depths, no gorge or plateau prevents
