1. I know I'll always be an advisor
And enlightener as long as I'm alive

2. So I advise - whoever rejects my advice
I truly count him among the ignorant

3. For I have spent my life wearing
Seventy years among the robes of the wise

4. Whoever wants to live long in peace
Safe from any wicked schemes

5. Let him come to me for I am the helper
And the truth does not shy away from my views

6. Whoever doubts my sincerity goes against my wisdom
And my advice is met with resentment and affliction

7. Marriage should not be sought to strangers
In their foreign home far away

8. Unless he desires a permanent move
And is struck by harm from relatives

9. And wants to cut ties with his country and family
Whether he lives in prosperity or adversity

10. How can he if he wants to move
From his foreign home to his relatives?

11. His move costs a great many coins
So look and be wise among the eloquent

12. And if his companion refuses his opinion
Disagreement descends and every misery comes

13. Whoever sees an opinion and becomes stubborn about it
His feet slip into destruction

14. God said to His Prophet in a saying
Consult them in the matter for clarification

15. And He is the One Who made the highest in intellect
And did not shy away, but consulted them without contention

16. You left my heart confused and wandering
I never felt that in my youth or prime

17. And you left me in uncertainty and ignorance
Wandering in a dark night

18. If you had a little more strength of opinion
You would have healed my heart in attaining my wishes

19. But I have patience that calms my pain
With advice, wisdom and intelligence

20. Do not want to marry someone who does not want you
Never, even if he is the closest relative

21. And if you want to get a woman
Look at her with the eyes of the wise

22. Do not look forbidden, even if
You are tempted, for it is not proper for the jurists

23. So if you find a place for her in your heart
Proceed to marry her with hope

24. And choose a free woman of good lineage for your son
Whose fathers are of the righteous nobles

25. And so are the mothers and aunts - do not
Let their grace fall to the strangers

26. For lineage creeps like the saying of our Prophet
Do not be fooled by a pretty trinket

27. For perhaps beneath the beauty are ugly natures
That will make you drink poison in water

28. You have never found greater joy
And pleasure than a beautiful wife

29. Beautiful of face and excellent in manners
Who captivates you with affection forever

30. Beware exaggerated beauty, for it
Is food for the eyes and the ultimate temptations

31. And beware the ugly faces that you do not like
They are the specks for the ambitious soul

32. And beware marrying a fool, for she
Is an affliction for the wise

33. Beware the stupid for there is no cure
To heal their stupidity, even with every medicine

34. And it is impossible to please everyone, for it
Is an incurable disease that leads to exhaustion

35. If you want comfort and success
Be content with one woman whom you live with in hope

36. Live alone and single and do not gather them
If you are a man of intelligence and wisdom

37. Do not remain a day without a wife
For bachelorhood is the craft of the wicked

38. The Prophet said: the worst of you are your bachelors
And the best are those who follow my views

39. And it is upon you to be close to the young ones
For they are the best bedfellows and comfort for the weary

40. They are the sweetest women, without doubt
And the most beautiful, without contention

41. So understand - I have given you my advice
For I hope for good for the youth with sincerity

42. And I ask God to save you
From these difficulties, my mornings and evenings

43. And a thousand greetings be upon you
From your brother when the lightning flashes in the highest sky
