1. Time has afflicted me, or
My ways have become constricted,

2. And my relatives have become estranged,
And the knot of my resolves has unraveled.

3. To the abundant, overflowing richness,
To the striking, fierce lion,

4. To the raining, pouring, bountiful cloud,
He is the offspring of the sultan of resolve,

5. Namely, the father of the Arabs, the bestower,
The son of great, victorious men.

6. He has astute judgement that routs
The sharp edges of drawn swords.

7. From chiefs who led the eras
With glory and positions.

8. They are people of favour and kindness,
And good traits pouring forth.

9. People of piety and righteousness,
Of virtues and merits.

10. Repelling every obstinate adversary,
And aiding each companion.

11. Protecting our governors
With valorous, firm hands.

12. Honoring each supporter,
And humbling each opponent.

13. He is the one who has removed cares through his excellence,
And set my affairs aright.

14. You who are the best of the virtuous,
I have not ceased to be in the highest station,

15. While your malicious, hostile enemy
Is in the lowest pit.

16. I call you with an urgent call
From an absent era.

17. I do not fear if I were
One who degrades or blames you.

18. How can time afflict me
With its changing tribulations,

19. While the splendor of your hands assists me?
Woe to the vanishing time!

20. In my praise of you, when
I have fulfilled the duty of obligation,

21. Since before you singled me out
With gifts and favours,

22. And endowed me with virtues
That met with your approval,

23. And raised my status
To the high, piercing star,

24. Until you left the foremost enemies
In lasting, ceaseless torment,

25. And I turned from you preparing
To loose a piercing arrow.

26. So be generous to a loyal servant
Who does not distance himself from your abode,

27. Until they say: "Thus has the noble companion acted,
Fulfilling promise to present and absent.

28. You are the truthful in your promise
To both friend and foe.

29. From where does a questioner return disappointed
From you, his wish unmet?"

30. And to you my case is clear
As a radiant, beaming bride.

31. It has come like the piercing sun
With abundant, streaming light.

32. It has come dragging its train
With petitions and appointments.

33. A maiden without any harm
Or blemish for the suitor.
