1. By the grace of Allah I live in ease,
With bountiful means, destitution cannot trouble me.

2. My uncle the Imam, son of the Sultan, guarantees
That the vicissitudes of fate will come to me gently.

3. For I trust firmly in Allah, then in him,
When my uncle falls ill, he is the one to heal me.

4. How can my uncle fall ill when he is my bulwark?
When I take his side, he does not stint his treasures.

5. Bewildered, I frequented him utterly absorbed
Drifting on a sea with no safe harbor.

6. Almost drowning, but the light of guidance shone,
And he called to a people saying "Guide me!"

7. When he came upon it, he saw me sitting so drew near,
Close by me, laying down his burdens.

8. He said "What do you think of the matter of one charged
With strength yet poorer than the destitute?"

9. When I understood his complaint, I said "Do you not see people
Inclining towards the land of Yabreen?"

10. "Do not sit still, take men from every side,
Be they from Syria, Egypt, or China.

11. Point their scattered groups towards the tumultuous sea,
Scoop up water in your palm, drink without stint.

Unburden your complaints to the peerless one,

13. And you will surely return rewarded beyond measure."
No place where his domain reaches has sickness touched,

14. Except he has sent assured provision from himself.
If all people's sadness filled my valleys,

15. Still, in my view the young prince would console me.
Alas! That the days should preserve me from my fate,

16. And my supporter, his praise is my faith.

17. No thought has troubled me except he has met me
With good omens from his blessed palms.

18. Let not time hope to shake for me
A pillar, or strike me with the arrows of misery.

19. If I grow strong, it is his benevolence that will drown me,
And if I am far, it is familiarity from him that will come to me.

20. I have not ceased clothing him in the armor of my praise,
And he has not ceased clothing me in the mail of favor.

21. Poverty does not enter my home and evict me
To another, his generosity reproaches me.

22. And how can I hope for benefit from another when
He has granted me beyond what I wish and satisfies me?

23. He is jealous that poverty should touch his poet
Or that anyone should call him by the name destitute.

24. Poverty and privation do not afflict his poet,
Tomorrow the rescuer of lords and sultans.

25. The kings of the earth have turned to him entirely,
All willingly invoking blessings upon him.

26. Thus whoever obeys Allah, his Creator,
Is obeyed by all with the spirit of being.

27. The just one among creation, none compares to him,
You see him making righteous the world and the faith.

28. It is not fitting that anyone be named by his name,
For he is gold and people are of clay.

29. O you named by the names of kings, so be
As they are, masters of these arenas.

30. Make haste, O letters of his name by which you are called,
And come first or else flee far from me!

31. This is the famed Abu Arab, his position
Is like the prominence of the verses of Yaseen.

32. On land and sea, do you find his equal
In justice among kings or sultans?

33. No flaw in him but that I have seen him
When he appears looming, a meteor for demons.
