1. Love the wise among the people
Without delay, and be for them attentive

2. And be before them in every matter
May you be in every rank lofty

3. Do not be angry, for you are the chief of a people
And consult with them, you will be an impregnable fortress

4. And if they call you openly, answer them
Without delay, and be for them an intercessor

5. And if an urgent matter arises
Hasten it without delay, quickly

6. And if a matter appears that delay is best
Postpone it, and be in it prevented

7. And your secret from the wise, protect it
So what of one who makes it spread

8. And if one affectionate gives you a secret
Bury it, and beware lest it be lost

9. For if you announce, evil stirs among them
And if you conceal, you please all

10. Let not deceitful tongues delude you
They pretend, while behind them poison drips

11. And if one hostile to you comes to you in peace
To him be peaceful, if you are able

12. And if you are angry with someone, forgive
Their slip, be obedient
