1. You wish to drink from our water,
But it is bitter and undrinkable saltwater.

2. Alas, you wish to mount the unridable,
For the fierce son of Laboon cannot be ridden.

3. If you have wisdom and insight,
Or if you seek piety,

4. Then seek your provision from the Merciful,
And leave off asking people, O admirer.

5. Do not rely entirely on a friend,
For the reliant is neither loved nor accompanied.

6. Truly, the generous and noble among our people,
If he died starving, would not ask.

7. This is wondrous, the like of which we do not see,
And my words about it are most wondrous.

8. O my people, forgive and pardon,
Excuse the sinner and do not blame.

9. Do not say that I am overstepping,
But if war comes upon me, I shall not fear.
