1. My joy is complete when I see you coming,
Out of longing, and the world is joy and favor.

2. If they are not, then life is miserable,
Accompanied by worry, sorrow, and darkness.

3. A letter came to me from my loyal friend,
Noble to us, even if circumstances change.

4. A loving friend of old, an honest advisor,
Steadfast in virtues, it cannot be otherwise.

5. Wise, sensible, deserving no
Blame throughout time, though people spoke and said,

6. Morning and evening, he teaches rare things,
When they marry themselves to evil and say,

7. He keeps his soul from the faults of others
And raises it above what they came to and said.

8. So there is no good in money if it is not a pilgrimage,
Nor in the mind if they deviate from your side.

9. A letter came to me from you in Yemen and delight,
With your gentle, beautiful poetry within.

10. But oh friend, it stirred a dormant longing,
Like the day the caravan of camels departed.

11. When we read it, we rejoiced and were delighted,
As the intimate of the heart is gladdened by union.

12. And I do not care if an illusion comes from you,
With certainty, even if the enemies associate and reach.

13. Your qualities and traits prevent me
From repaying an enemy in kind.

14. And I fear distance will dissolve our covenant,
As severe sorrow dissolved joy.

15. If we meet you and draw near,
The cloud and confusion will lift from us.
