1. O soul, you are an adversary
With contradictory natures

2. You abandoned good counsel
And did not follow its purposes

3. So face towards me, do not turn away
For you are distancing yourself from me

4. One day you will inevitably
Head towards the graves

5. O soul, repent and return
Do not distance yourself

6. Do not despair, be with me
In both states as a helper

7. Be with me in all that
Pleases the God, the warrior

8. And feel at ease, then be patient
For in patience is benefit

9. Fear the punishment and beware
Of Satan and his schemes

10. Abandon evil and fear
Your Lord, bowing before Him

11. And be alert, be certain that
If I die, you will return

12. Do not walk the path of sin
And the corrupt endeavors

13. For trading corruption in
The market of virtues is futile

14. And when a young man attains glory
Do not be envious of him

15. For if you obey, you will reside
In the eternal gardens

16. Reaping from it
Ripe or unripe fruits

17. In it is lasting bliss
Under cool shades

18. With white-skinned beautiful
Dark-eyed maidens

19. Like concealed pearls
Seen reclining on beds

20. So enjoy yourself and drink
From rushing rivers

21. With jujube and pomegranate trees
Intertwined branches

22. Description falls short of the virtues
Of their bliss and feast

23. But if you disobey, you will fall
Into the blazing depths of Hell

24. What can the describer say of it
And it will not diminish

25. If they elaborated in describing it
For an epoch, it would only increase

26. O soul, this is negligence
Of it, though you will arrive

27. Why do I repeat their flaws
With Khaled or Khaleda

28. Do you not see the flaws of your soul
Like motionless mountains

29. Yet I see you finding fault with
Every brother of pure aims

30. Shall we deny what you do
While you are witness?

31. Your tongue said: "I am the place
Of hidden matters," though seated

32. The tongue said: "My mobilizer -
A heart that followed its purposes"

33. The heart said: "I do not know
Gathering the dispersed"

34. Then the eye, the eye! Woe
To the destinations of the arriving

35. The eyes said: "My mobilizer -
An ear, though I was asleep"

36. The ear said: "My dispatcher -
A heart, so I became the leader"

37. Each claimed a claim
With no benefit

38. They said: "Let us seek arbitration"
For the body is the judge of intents

39. They unanimously accepted the judgement
And fire is the abode of the denier

40. So it judged that the heart is a
Ruler over them, seated

41. For the heart is the ruler
Of all the members, O praiser

42. So when corruption appears from it
The subjects are corrupt

43. And when righteousness appears from it
The subjects are rightly guided

44. So praise be to God who
Opened the sleeping eyes
