1. Whoever is victorious with God
Will surely attain blessings unending,

2. And whoever fears Him succeeds -
A success with no fear of consequences.

3. Whoever does not think of consequences
Will live long devoid of companions.

4. Relatives and kin ignore him,
As do even his closest companions.

5. All people despise him -
Both distant and close relations.

6. You see him like a target
Attacked from every direction,

7. Soon to be ripped apart
By the claws of calamity.

8. Unable to defend himself
From the blows of misfortune.

9. No relative can help him,
Nor intimate friend stand by.

10. I advise you, do not befriend
One who seeks only self-gain.

11. Rather, choose a noble friend
Of rank, generous and wise,

12. Keen, insightful, truthful,
Of good lineage, patient and tried.

13. You are exalted, towering high
Above the stars in ascendance.

14. Never stubborn in his views,
Consulting others in hardship.

15. Whoever is stubborn in opinion
Will persist in acts unwise.

16. No doubt such a fool should be shunned -
Avoid him, this is only wise.

17. Folly is a disease with no cure,
So ignore him and turn away.

18. If you mend a part, another will tear -
Why tire yourself in this way?

19. You'll struggle if you befriend
One blind to the proper path.

20. Throwing himself amidst
Those who love and those who wrath.

21. Pacifying and uniting
Ways of fear and adversity.

22. The more you dissuade him
The more strange his actions be.

23. Morn and eve he is downcast,
With tears flowing down his cheek.

24. Never learning from his ignorance,
Saying all he does is correct.

25. When a boy is wont to a habit
In youth he becomes set in his ways.

26. Temperament is not engrained
Like innate nature firmly stays.

27. If not disciplined, he remains
Lost to himself, nature prevails.

28. What loss if he came repentant
For a fault, regretful and frail?

29. Perhaps the Lord of the Throne
Would accept sincere penitence.

30. He is Merciful to His creation,
Bestowing upon them gifts without end.

31. So I hope in Him for the Hereafter,
Whoever hopes in other is failed.

32. And you must uphold piety -
Taqwa of God is the greatest gain.

33. Learn and study the Qur'an,
Honor it and do it justice.

34. It is the Straight Path -
Ponder it, a most noble practice.

35. And neglect not grammar,
For it is the base of every writer.
